Playing it for the first time, this morning, really enjoying it, an open ended RPG (well mostly open ended but not the biggest map), very quest oriented, lots of fun, wants something mildly oblivion like for a while, its running at max settings at 1920x1080 on an aging 9800gtx/e6400 rig too and looks GREAT.

Feels a bit like gothic games, kind of what gothic 3 should have been, no technical issues and runs great unlike gothic 3.

Anyone else play it, im just in the swamp area atm im not sure if the game gets new areas by doing quests or if u can go anywhere from the start.

i have this game in my "pile to play" after a lot of other games lol, had a quick 1 hour of it on the day of release and i really liked it, albiet incredibly difficult combat when starting out...

Not a patch on Gothic 3 with the Ultimate Community Patch, imho. If you've tried Gothic 3 without that patch, I'd really suggest starting again with it. It makes the game run as it should have done.

Yes, Risen runs well, but it's so much shallower and smaller, and feels less open that Gothic 3.

Risen I enjoyed, but I was kind of feeling like I'd had enough towards the end of the main quest, whereas with Gothic 3, even though it took like 3 or 4 times as long to complete, I could have just kept going with.

Risen was ok, but I by far prefer Oblivion/Morrowind.

The game was too linear for me and the fights got tedious as hell, particular for the semi-boss battles. I don't mind tactical sword play, but some of the battles were plain dumb and the only way I could get past was doing a reload until I got lucky and defeated them.

yeah the combat does seem very hard.

Erm i tried gothic 3 with one community patch im not sure if it was the latest one it kept crashing constantly still.

I played a little bit of it but didn't like it that much, especially with the new Fallout occupying most of my time.

after playing more it just seems too frustrating, combat is so hard, and it doesnt look like you can get any new weapons or armour until later in the game.

It only gets harder. Wait till you meet up with an Ashbeast if you've not already. From what I remember, I think you have to forge your own weapons to get some of the better stuff like an obsidian 2 handed sword.

I managed to complete the game, but like I said earlier, if felt like a chore rather than an achievement.

Yeah, might be worth checking you've got the right one. I put in around 100 hours in Gothic 3 with the UCP and didn't have a single crash. Everything worked perfectly. I think the latest version is 1.74. It's so worth the effort to get running all patched up!

Runs well, looks nice, was fun at the start. Combat was hard. got bored after about halfway onwards though.

overall its not bad though.

yeah maybe worth giving a go, ive still got gothic 3 around here somewhere, i just havent found a open ended role playing game live up to Bethesda's elder scrolls and fallout games, and really looking for one.

reinstalling gothic 3 now with the latest community patch downloading, hope it runs ok on my aging rig at my native res.

I really enjoyed but it had been a while since played a rpg when I picked it up. Some stages were really really heard but i thought it had a pretty good story line so I stuck with it to the end.

Hey, good luck!

You're in for an awesome slice of open-world RPG gaming if it works for you! In my opinion it's much better than Oblivion. As far as 3D swords-and-sorcery RPGs are concerned, it's only bettered by Morrowind as far as I'm concerned.

hey strum it seems to be working at high settings, few framerate drops similar to oblivion but nothing too bad, gonna get into it now tonight, only thing is after i left the beggingers camp i have no clue what to do :S ment to go somewhere but dont understand the map or have any clue where i am:S

it looks lovely at high settings (one off very high, dont think my 9800gtx couild handle it at this res)

I bought it a week or two ago with ME2, played a bit of ME2 then tried Risen, since then the only game ive played is Risen, im finding it hard to put down!

I find it strange people say its too hard, not getting decent armour and weapons till later is perfect, means your not playing some uber console game. I dont like to be lead through games, much like Oblivion does.

Havnt had this much fun with a game since the Witcher.

I'd say

Ok if u want an rpg to play for a while
short
not a great deal to explore about half of fallout or other games but changes a bit in some chapters
looks ok not great but ok
yes I have played it and finished it
and it not to hard get easyer as u get better armor

Just got it this week, liking it so far and do agree the combat system is a bit odd though it seems it will not take long to master.

How do you turn v-sync on in it with an ati card? also is there a way to make the view range further? i tried editing the xml file but it wouldn't let me.

i don't remember having an problems with the combat, but maybe i had it on easy or cheats on or something. i played it expecting it to be rubbish, found out it wasn't (though not amazing either) and ended up enjoying it.

playing gothic 3 now with the patch, first hour and ive got tonnes of quests, looked at some maps online so i got a general idea of the starting area now im enjoying it a lot more than i was with risen.
