What did you do when Dreamcast died?

Where did you turn to when the Dreamcast died? A lot of people in forums said don't get I Gamecube they're rubbish. So I tried the PS2 I got Tekken Tag virtual fighter 4 and some other games which escape me just now. Most of the games coming out were either rubbish in my eyes, sequels and or just beatem ups and racing games nothing gave me that thrill I got while I had the Dreamcast. So I sold the PS2 and bought an XBox. The Xbox was a nice piece of kit but the lack of good rpgs at that time and the fact all the games that were on it didn't seem to be aimed well at European or the Asian market cause me to lose interest and then just like I did with the PS2 I sold it.

Apart from the GBA and a PSP which were ok I just didn't bother with console gaming for about a couple of years and mainly focused on PC gaming. PC games are great. I like PC gaming but I missed that pick up and just have fun days I used to have with consoling back in the 90s. Most PC games are fun but are about serous gaming and even thought I like that I don't want it all the time.

There came a time where Gamecubes became really cheap second hand £24.99. A lot said it the Gamecube was rubbish but for £24.99 it was worth a risk. Now I don't know if what I found was a good thing or a bad thing but I found that passion for console gaming again with the cube that very spark which I come to terms with may be lost for ever was back. Yeah you could say it's a good thing that I found a console I liked at last but the money I got through to find true gaming love again sickens me. Hundreds of pounds blown on items I got fed up with so quickly

Eternal Darkness, Metriod Prime 1 and 2, Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart Double Dash, Wind Waker, Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader and some classic I enjoyed on the Dreamcast were also on their the list of high quality games were that far beyond anything I found on the PS2 and XBox even though the Gamecubes library was a heck of a lot small than the amount of games the PS2 and Xbox had to offer.

Think of all the money I could have saved if I had just gone out and bought a cube after the Dreamcast. What angers me the most is why were so many people rubbishing such a good console I wasted so much money because all of the noobish advice.

I think this is the reason I didn't get a 360 this time around or am not pre-ordering a PS3 as I don't want to waste so much money again. That's why this time I settled with the Wii regardless of what good or bad thing people say about it.

I've become q bit of a Nintendo fan now and can talk, talk and talk about how much I love them. As you may have notice with the small amout of Wii threads I've created in the past.

Anyway what gaming journeys did you guys take and did you have better luck than me? lol

A lot of people said the Gamecube was crap, I ignored them :)

I ended up with an Xbox and PS2 as well but neither really hooked me except for the odd game, GT4 and Morrowind.

I now have a Wii and a PC too, although I'm becoming a little dubious about the whole Wiimote business now, it was a gift though so who cares :D

I'd still be playing Soul Calibur if I hadn't boxed it away whilst moving house ;)

Great console, deserved to do so much better

I actually didnt buy one or a cube. I got bitten with a 32x and then the saturn (which I loved) when support for those wained I thought I'd wait a bit to see how the dreamcast did.

Still I was sad to see sega stop making consoles. For me they were the best at that but didnt have enough financial clout against the bigger boys.

My borther always had the sega and I had the nitendo my first console was a SNES I loved it, then worked up from there. I found the N64 games a bit pricey tho but got some secondhand bargins when playstation becamen the must have console. Then I got the cube, sold it bout 6 months ago with my N64 and got nearly £300 for all the stuff I had and I thought I would be luckky to get £80. Pokemon league gold/silver on N64 was woth £25 quid trade in cash I know some of the games are very sought after!!

My brother just got a wii for christmas, after playing on a PC you look at the graphics and they are a let down but IMO the wii is for fun and that's what nintendo has always been about.

Their games are acessible and pretty to look at. They dont need the games catalogue of the other consoles as they have games and characters which will always be fun, I think super smash bros could be interesting on a wii and mario kart.

I think Sony took the fun out of gaming by focussing on quantity and not quality. They tried to appeal to every time of gamer and not focus on making a truely amazing game, companies like EA are guilty of this too.

I turned to drink and hard drugs, then bought a PS2 :o

Seriously though the dreamcast was the best console thus far and the selection of games for it's short life were amazing. Still have mine and will never get rid :)

Never had a Dreamcast till about 3-4 months ago until I brought one from Fleebay from the recomendation from almost everyone on OcUK.

Its now the best console ive owned, Ive never played a Console so much and stuck to the games as I have.
Also two of my mates after coming round and having a dreamcast night have gone and brought one.

Great console. Never to late to get one ;)

I had a PS1 and was going to get a Dreamcast as well but my parents weren't going to spoil me and I couldn't wait long enough til either christmas or my birthday so I left it. I played on a friends, after that I got a PS2, but after Pro Evo and the Tony Hawk's games it was pretty boring even though I stuck by it.

I bought a 2nd hand Gamecube with Luigi's Mansion, Super Monkeyball 2 and Wind Waker, and I thought it was quality. SMB2 was the most fun I've ever had playing on a console I think, but after waiting for decent titles I decided I'd see why everyone was raving about the Xbox. I'd played Halo co-op with a cousin and it was a lot of fun. I traded my GC for a 2nd hand Xbox with PGR2 and Top Spin 2. Turns out that I really didn't like the load times and the over-shiney effect just didn't suit me, and I sold that pretty quickly. Bought a SNES, and I now have a Wii and they're both funn! :)

Dreamcast was good. But for the type of games I liked, the n64 was a belter of a console and just takes the crown in my eyes.

before my first purchased i lived at my mates houses who had N64s then

(PS1) > (Xbox > PS2) > Xbox 360

The brackets indicate what was traded in/sold to partially fund the next console.

After the Dreamcast I bought the gamecube around 8 months after release just for Wind Waker. Then later on bought all the Resident Evil games for it.

Played on the PC mainly after the Dreamcast and got hooked on Wolfenstein for around 2 1/2 years. Got an Xbox around May 2005 for PGR 2 and then a 360.

Haven't played any games on the PC since.

there are great games for all consoles, you really didnt give ps2 a chance if you just bought some beat em ups that were available on the release date! (though tekken tag was great). you definitely made the wrong move selling the ps2 when you say you like rpgs.

you should really made your own mind when choosing a console, everyone has different tastes and each company (console) are strong at different genres.

i personally went for ps2 after my dreamcast, traded it in for one pretty much on the release date as supposrt for dc was dying. also bought a gc on its release date :d. the games that really stood out for me on dc was soul calibur, shen mue and jet set radio. oh and virtua tennis :D

im aiming to buy a wii and ps3 next... though i could be swayed towards 360 depending on how well online gaming will be handled on the ps3 and of course whats happening with exclusive games

The gamecube, was, is and always will be a quality console. So underrated it's untrue. I'll admit I played on my PS2 more, mainly cos it had more games, but the GC gave me so many :D moments it was well worth it.

I never touched my XBox on the otherhand. Things have changed thou as you can see.

I lol'd.

Actually it was a sad day, seeing any formerly glorious company pull out like that is a bit nasty.

I still have three Dreamcasts. One broken one a Japanese one and a European one. I bought an Import and loved it that much I bought another one when they came out in the UK. lol

The lightgun games were totally frickin' amazing too.

That's it, gonna get mine back out tonite and give it some hammer! Still got the "arcade stick" too so that will come handy with a bit of Soul Calibur action ;)
