What did you learn to drive in?

Driving instructor had a fiesta of some description although I was also practising in my dads Cavalier SRi (I shudder to think how much the insurance was costing!)

Started with a Yaris

then now a Mini One Diesel

So a good proportion of these cars you all learnt in weren't even on the designer's drawing board when I was passing my test. I learnt in my first car which was a '79 vintage Mk 1 VW Polo

I wrote it off six months after passing. :(

Instructor was a 2.0HDI (130ps) 307, then my mums car was a 1.1 206. Was interesting when I first drove the 206 with the lack of torque. :p

Corsa diesel, can't remember what the engine was. Not exactly outstanding but got me through my test. :)

A Rover Metro 111i. Not a bad car* though I did have to remove the drivers seat and drive from the back seat in order to fit ;)

* In hindsight a truely awful car but I was learning at the time and actually quite liked it.

I'm with you there, mate. I know I'm not the oldest member on these boards (can you say Drawoh Tesremos), but for Pete's sake, I got my license in 1984.... ;)

A 1990 Nissan Micra.

I had passed my bike test a while before I went for my car test.

My driving instructor seemed a bit miffed when I casually mentioned on my third lesson that my bike I had at the time had a larger engine than her car. :p

Instructor had a '91 Clio 1.4 RT.
Practised in my Dad's '88 Cavalier 1.6 Estate.

No power steering in either and the Cav had a temperamental manual choke. Proper cars with none of this electronic nanny state stuff.
