Atm i have a 400d with battery grip and an assortment of cheaper end lenses . I have always had canon since i moved to dslr's (300/350/400) and all secondhand .

I now feel its about time i have something abit better and new for a change and had my heart set on the 650d .

The trouble is im now doubting the choice and feel the 60d would be better but the old tech is worrying me so i am in limbo not knowing what to buy . I only have a limited budget . Would be buying a grey import and my choice of lenses would not stop me possibly making the move to Nikon .

I tend to do landscapes but do lots of things so need a choice of lenses . Video is not important but im sure will be used once or twice

So do i buy the 650? or the 60d or do i go to the dark side with Nikon and if so what body and lenses ?

Regards

Persil

What's your budget cos you can get a 2nd hand 7d for about £600-£650

Also I say stick with canon cos you are used to them and also have lenses for them as well

Tbh, a D7000 is hard to beat especially considering the cost from somewhere like *******. Personally I would opt for one over the 7D even if they were the same price.
If you know someone who has one, perhaps ask if you can test it out.

As you do landscapes etc, the DR & general IQ of Exmor sensor technology cannot be beaten...

I could probably go £600-650 . The 7d is just out of reach but the 7000 is smack bang in there . And would probably make 3-400 back on my Canon gear . But if i was to go to the dark side what lense/lenses . Atm i have 50mm 1.8 and 18-135is and a couple of superzooms and a cheap 12-30 tokina

35 1.8g, 50 1.8g & 85 1.8g - These midrange primes actually have top-end IQ and good build quality (better than Canon counterparts).
Then something like a standard walkabout zoom, maybe the 18-105mm.

Rhys, is there ever a thread you don't recommend a user sell up all his gear and go Nikon? :p

(you are right though about D7000 is where my money would go in this price bracket)

If staying with Canon and doing Landscapes.... Used 5D Mk1... and a 17-40L .... 24-105 is a great walk about.... and a 70-200L F4... should make a 3 piece set-up to work towards.
Looking at landscapes through a FF camera is so much nicer.... (Was using my 400D today, as it's my travel light camera).
After reading recent posts, I'd go Nikon for a crop sensor.

The d7000 can be had on import for About £530, theN whatever lens you feel would be most useful to you , this would be my choice for your budget

Or a d5100 for less than £300 after cash back and more glass or better glass , still an upgrade

I was in this exact position about 6 months ago. I had the 400D... did I go for the 60D, the 7D or jump over to the D7000. In the end the D7000 was a much better all round camera than even the 7D so I went for that. The Nikon lens range is ok, with just some issues on the longer cheaper end of the market (no 300 f/4 VR/expensive non VR option, lack of 70-300L style lens, still not released 70-200 f/4 VR and no non VR version etc.).

While I do regret occasionally not getting the 7D because of the lens options the camera on its own is very nice. :)

another option is a 2nd hand 5d mk1 ,so you get the full frame goodness for your landscapes ,

Hey, I'm suprised he's not advocating saving up for a D700...:p

Not sure I understand the knocking of Nikon Lens range.... not everyone want's or can afford to buy everything in the range and want every combination under the sun.
Decent ultra wide, walk around and some form of tele zoom covers most peoples needs, chuck in a fast 50mm and job done. Worrying over 1 F stop in todays high ISO performance is a little academic to me...... And I'm a Canon user :o .... LOL....

My vote still goes for a Mk1 5D if Canon is the preferred route. May be "old" tech to some, but hasn't let me down yet.........

Who's knocking Nikon lenses? :P The only stuff that gets 'knocked' here is just about every Canon camera under the sun >.>

hmm im probably more confused than ever.. Been checking and reading a lot about the 7000 and a lot of people had issues with back focusing .

Its also about the same age as the d60 and i feel as soon as i buy it they will bring out a 7100 lol .

I also know nothing about Nikon and there lenses but i feel i need to replace all my existing canon ones as there just to old to do the newer body justice .

Really depends what lenses you have. The nifty is £70ish, and was released in 1991 or something. Doesn't stop it being a cracking lens.
