I have recently upgraded my system and now have 2 spare 80GB Barracuda 7200.7 SATA drives spare!
Dont want to put them in the new one and dont want to waste them by binning them!
Worth 'baying' them or something?

Cheers an Stay Phunky :D

Another 9 posts and you can access the Members Market to sell them.

Other options include:

RAID0 - I know you said you don't want to use them, but unless you've got a fast boot drive at the moment they could offer some pretty decent performance if you have a suitable onboard RAID controller.

Backup - Never know when one of the other drives is going to fail, having a spare disk sitting around isn't a bad idea.

Stick them in a box, and use them for things like testing a new operating system or similar. Here is a pic of my desk atm, just building a little machine for someone but I didn't yet have the delivery of some new SATA disks so I just popped out one of the test disks and got WinXP installed on that.

Gotta rig up a little external hammock (or similar) for the hard-disk laying on the worktop, its making the whole desk shake/hum :)

I did not know I could sell on here, best get posting!!
I did run a raid for a while but really did not see much speed improvement, and when 1 went down and I lost everything I was not best impressed!
Would only use raid now for large 3D CAD models downloaded from a server so backed up!
Spare one in case of failure is a good idea mind.

I've just upgraded and have fitted a 250GB Barracuda 7200.10

I've got an 80 and a 160. I was going to use the 160 just as storage as it already has all my photos etc.

Will using this drive so the rest of the machine down?

Its good to keep some spares just in case somethings going wrong.

It not, you can use them to set up a file server..

Love the Stilts suggestion. What a waste of the internet tho. But it did make me rofl.

You should get a couple of quid for them on an auction site, Ive been after a couple of 80's for testing. You can even use them for dual booting linux or something similar. 80gb is still a useful size.
