What do people do with their old HD's?

had 3 spare (not likely to die soon)hard drives from an old computer (all pata).

Bought 2x hd caddies (general junk storage) for them and a synology ds106j which is using the larger 250gb drive as a net accessible web/ftp server :)

put a hammer to them, no one ever gets near my hard drives dont sell them hammer them then bin them

OK when most of the EU piracy raids went on last year people did resort to such antics but in general even if you have something to hide you can destroy your data in a significantly more secure way without resorting to a hammer you know. I remember reading something not long after about someone who smashed up a large multirive setup because he was scared he was going to get a knock at the door.... nothing happened :D

Personally I have nothing to hide other than my personal data so I securely delete the data and either re-home (sale or gift) or better yet put them to one side for the inevitable day when i need a drive for disaster recovery.

I take a nice big sledgehammer and knock the siht out of them. It's amazing how therapeutic that is.

Then once I'm confident theres no way they can be used, I take them to the local skip.

TBH it'd be worth installing 1 of these so that you can relocate your swap file onto it, should give your OS a slight boost.

I like others here tend to keep 1 or 2 drives spare as you never know when drives will go to drive heaven.

80 gb throw away??
Sell it offcourse still worth something, about 15 quid per disc.

Or use them, not a prob with these day's cases, mobos and psu's.
160 aint nothing, still enough for quite some games.
