What do people use as "sound" for pc's

Seperates are the best, but they will cost the most. Simple :)

I use a Rotel RA-01 paired with some Monitor Audio BR2s, linked to the PC via a USB DAC/Amp designed for headphones (not ideal as I'm feeding amped signal into an amp)

I use a similiar setup (the Monitor Audio BR2s sound AWESOME) and I am the envy of ALL my friends! Really, just buy the BR2s they are an absolute bargain for the amount of sound you get! Obviously you would need a Hi-Fi amp as well but TRUST me playing games/music/movies sounds ridik on these!

full cinema kit which soon to be going back to optical fed from pc :D
av reciever powering 5.1 floor standers rears and sub.
new motherboard forced me to use the onboard 2.0 headphone jack :(

Motherboard optical output -> homemade DAC -> homemade Tripath Amp -> Technics Bookshelf speakers

OR: -> homemade headphone amp -> HD555 'phones

Gaming machine - Digital coax > Nakamichi AV10 > 5.1 Monitor Audio/TDL RTL

Music machine - Mackie 400F Firewire > Tapco S8 monitors.

M-Audio ProjectMix (although this is a bit extreme for your average PC user!) linked to a pair of KRK Rokit 6 studio monitors. Pricey but great :)

Headphones are the best imho.

I used to use a 7.1 sound system but had to buy some headphones as my mum was complaining about the noise (damn BF2 artillery)

Since then i've never gone back to speakers as i find the sound is better on headphones (if you get a decent one)

I game so use Head phones for everything. You cannot beat headphones when it comes to gaming as it pin points the enemy perfectly. For my tunes I sync my MP3 player then plug the MP3 player into my house system or just use media monkey via my head phones.

X-Fi Titanium + Seinheisser HD 595's at the moment, great for gaming / movies - sound even better now they have been worn in. :)

Was using some Acoustic Energy Aego M 2.1 Speakers but they ended up constantly humming from the amp, guess the transformer stopped working properly typically after the 1 year gurantee had just ran out.

May go for an amp + bookshelfs as my next setup.

I currently use a Pair of Monitor Audio BR1's connected to a Cambridge Audio A1mk3 special edition. This is then connected to an Auzentech Xfi Forte =]

Next on the list is a nice pair of headphones for general gaming. What would you guys recommend?

xfi elite pro > optical > beresford tc-7520 headphone amp> hd595

or if I'm using speakers,

xfi elite pro > optical > beresford tc-7520 > NAD 302 > wharfedale 9.1

Will be upgrading to a nad C326BEE and wharfedale 9.6's soon :D
