What do people use for O.S on there HTPC

Then openelec is the way to go.
It is less resource hungry, so you will get better performance, run cooler and use less electricity.
Fully supports all file formats I've thrown at it including 24bit HD audio and very large rips (hardware dependant, but generally better compatibility than windows).
Boots straight into Kodi.
Boots and wakes up faster.
Simple to configure.
Free

Just put it in a USB stick and try it...
 
Nuc. I've had WDTV - > Microserver with gfx card - > Rasp Pi - > older Nuc (24p bug, now bedroom htpc) - > i5 Nuc. It's overkill but was first to feature real 24p.
I use a double insulated groundless power supply as I had ground loop issues. Also a fanless case.

Finally I use the internal pulseeight cec adaptor so I can control with TV remote.

All my files come from my NAS (microserver running Ubuntu server). I also use a centralised mysql database so I can stop and resume over devices and see watched status.
 
What NUC do you use is it intel NUC im not after anything to flashy just something powerful enough for my MKV collection and does HD audio and play my music and also 24p. We have a WD LIVE TV that plays everything but don't like the interface and its sluggish

I'd suggest the opposite to what you've said in most cases. But mainly Windows is just vastly more versatile. That's why I use it and why nothing can compete with it.

I think it is the 4rth gen i5. Was the first released with hd5000 graphics that fixed the 24p bug. It's complete overkill for kodi. I imagine there are cheaper ones that don't have the bug now.
 
I use Mythbuntu for the OS which gives me a MythTV backend for recording TV etc but I'm using Kodi as the frontend just now.

Wasn't the bug only in Windows though?
Thought even the older ones were ok in Linux/Openelec.
Could be (probably:D) wrong though.
