Currently got my windows 7 64 running from my 500gig samsung spinpoint F1. but have my 1tb F3 as secondary. Just wondering, will there be much of an improvement in boot time etc, if i swap then over and put windows on the F3.

Coming from someone who has both drives, I'm not sure if it will make too much difference, but you will definitely see a difference. I know I did when I swapped my OS disk for windows 7 to the F3.

Boot time with my F3 was around 35-45 seconds inc password entry (my password is loooong). I would switch if I was in your position.

EDIT: I just noticed your rig specs...you could really do with getting an SSD to add to that awesome setup. I made the switch from F3 too SSD and it is worth it.
 
Are they really that much quicker? if i got an ssd id have to get a cheaper one, the mrs will kill me, she says all i ever do is spend money on my system haha. How much am i looking for, for an ssd, and which one should i choose, so far i know nothing about them really.
 
Depends what you want out of the SSD, if you want a fast boot a, a few fast apps and mostly fast games. Go for it.. get a 64gb or something.

But yes, they really are that much faster. Around 250 read 150 write, numbers vary on different SSDs

better yet, get 24 SSDs


or if you don't mind the lack of TRIM, get an OCZ Revodrive... woweee
 
Well the X25-M I have was a bit disappointing at first as the F3 is a very quick drive or maybe I was expecting too much from it. The F3 however used to slow down over time even with the most diligent maintenance. My SSD boot times are now 20-30seconds, that's to a fully active desktop. I can be from cold boot into a game in under 1min. My games load super fast. I'm always first into L4D2 servers and at the start of rounds I'm always first to load so get to steal the best weapons :P.

Over time this SSD just never slows down, its been months now and I've not had to do any maintenance. I have a billion startup programs and services which used to really drag my F3 down at startup, but the ssd loads them pretty much instantly at startup. The only downside to my ssd is the size, 80GB is just about enough...ideally 180GB would be great.

I can only speak to the X25-M as I have no experience with other brands of SSD, but I would say the 80GB is worth the investment.
 
40GB enough for you? The Intel-X25's are quite decent. C300's too.

Patriot 32GB was around £40 on the Todays Deals about 2 days ago :D Should've been interested then. I was here when they first popped up, 13 available, but I just could bring myself to invest.
