What do you call your boxes?

my drive partitions used to be called "EniGmA", "NemEsiS", "XenoMorpH" and "ValKyR"

But now they're a lot less creative and more informative: "Win7x86", "Games/Documents", "Movies/Downloads" and "Pictures/Music" lol

I must be getting old :(

Gaming PC = freetime

c:/ is called Minbari (Mysterious and impossible to understand)
data drives are called data/media/games etc as required

HTPC = showtime, drives are boringly named
NC10 Netbook = tiny
Macbook = breathless (the battery hasn't charged in a few years - made sense at the time :p )

I should really develop the B5 motif further :)

Ah, naming schemes. I've been through a fair few. :D

Started with colours. Got rather confusing after everyone in the family got desktops and laptops.

Moved to processor names but there were dupes after an upgrade.

I now just stick with touhou characters, far easier to remember and also rather characteristic of each machine. :p

Yukari - desktop
Yuyuko - alienware m18x
Cirno - sammy nc10
Prismriver - home theatre pc
Remilia - file & backup server
Flandre - torrent & VPN server

Feeling less manly after typing that out. :o

Initial of primary owner followed by dt (desktop), lt (laptop) or sv (server), followed by a unique number. ie, jdt2; short and simple to type, and provides a little basic info!

Server - Nexus
Render/Workstations - Cluster 1, Cluster 2 and so on
HTPC's - HTPC-LR, HTPC-O, HTPC-B
Laptop - HP something or other lol

My PCs = master, server, tux
my 2 testers are named after the cases they are in, but all the others are named after the Mobo with teh exception of the DS3 Boards because I have 4 of those all different specs, with different CPUs and those are named accordingly

EVGA
DS3-6400
DS3-6550
DS3-QUAD ( This is a 6600 )
DS3-DUAL ( This is a 6600 Too )
My tester PC is currently toying with various Linuxes and I name that globalwin cos its in a GWIN case boringly enough!

my wife names mine, although I am down to one now which is called NiuNiu3 because it is 3 times as powerful as the original NiuNiu.

They are typically called after their looks

first computers became known as Salt and Pepper, being a white workstation and a black render server.

next came Bigfan, it was an old intellistation I used as another render server and had a really noisey big fan.

then Flash because it was full of leds and had a window, it was alike a rave going on inside my case.

followed by NiuNiu because it was totally new

then the contents of Flash got moved into another case and was renamed FlashDot because it ad a front grill that was full of round holes that the cut down to blue only led lights shone out of.

then RedDot came along... it was a HTPC and had a red power led on the front that was really the only thing that stood out.

Now I am down to NiuNiu3 only as the others have either passed away or their components got sold on the bay to pay for her parts.
