What do you do with your old hardware?

im using my old intel core 2 duo as a linux only machine since my course is covering it i thought id just use that to save dual booting lol, i hate getting rid of old tech anyways lol

Sell it if it's worth anything, if it's something small, give it away if someone is after something in the wanted section.
Finally, bin it, after its sat in a box for a couple of years! Guaranteed to need it the second you do this!

Usually pass it onto my dad but he's moved away from PC gaming so I'll probably end up selling this PC as a full rig or strip it and sell parts separately.

This might sound like a silly question but wheres the wanted section haha

I'd probably use my rig till it isn't worth anything so I'd just put it in a old case and keep it, recycling the SSD/HDD/PSU if I wanted to for the new build.

Of late, its been put in a new case & given to nephews for Xmas/Birthday prezzies as they are into steam games/minecraft. As dad is next for an 'upgrade' to W10 in the Autumn, I've got an AMD trinity based bundle in mothball until then. Otherwise the MM on here or the auction site.

Things like GPUs/ CPUs if current/ worth something, on to the auction site, to recoup some of the money I occidentally impulse purchased their replacements with...

Otherwise, build another media centre or home server with it :-)

Also hand me down to family of course...

I pass mine to kids, try on projects etc.

I have an E6300/Asus EPU MicroATX/4gb PC6400/350w psu/Samsung F3 drives/Fractal 1000 case system which was for playing with different server OS's such as Windows 2012 and Amahi. This will probably end up with the 120gb SSD running Ubuntu.

Kids had the old Q9550/Gigabyte P45/8gb PC8500/Sammy F3/HD 4870 GPU system.
This will end up in a new Fractal R5 most likely, with a new SSD and all my old HDD's, possibly as a server or general PC for all the family, and if I get a new pair of GPU's it will get one of the 7950's.

I had an E8500/Asus Maximus II/4gb Dominator GT/HD 5750 passive/GD02 for an HTPC, then with a single SSD for XBMC.

That HTPC has now been put in a spare TJ08B-E case with a spare HD7950 so I can try Windows 10. This will have the HD-5750 put back in, and the 120gb SSD replaced with a 240gb, and go into the kids room. It will get a 7950 if I get new cards.

I have a couple of older machines, one of them was a mint old biege PC tower with Windows 98. I was silly enough to wipe Windows 98 off the drive, just to find the old motherboard will not recognize a DVD drive. It had one stick of ram, but I found 2x1 GB of Corsair PC3500LL to use in that.

Now stuck without an OS on that, though the wife wants it out as she thinks it's junk.

I usually keep stuff in case I ever need it for whatever reason, and forget about it. Find it years later once it's obsolete and bin it haha

Graphics cards I usually sell on, but my 2 previous rigs are sat in my room collecting dust as we speak. Shame as one of them is not bad so might try to convert it into a media pc or something along them lines.

Where I live we have a charity called Reboot, who take old hardware pc's printers etc and either recycle or fix and provide for low income families or schools abroad.
I never give them old hdd's though, too paranoid about data that might be on them.

But atm I have a cupboard stuffed with bits including a complete working Shuttle XPC that was a friend's who bought a laptop.

I'm a hoarder but fortunately when I last upgraded my GPU my dad needed a new one so that's where that went.

The best hardware I have sat around doing nothing atm are my i5 2500k & 2600k. Keep telling myself im going to build system around them but never get round to it :P
