What do you guys think of number plates for cyclists

If you cycle faster than 18mph, you are advised not to use shared paths for the safety of pedestrians

Cyclist-I dont want to use a shared path because pedestrians are too slow, but I am allowed to be inpatient and moan about being held up because I am a Cyclist.

Cyclist-I dont care about riding in the road and holding everybody else up, It is everybody else who is impatient and their objections are totally unreasonable, I have every right to hold everybody up because I am a Cyclist.

See, selfish and inconsiderate all round really! :p

I never said that and I’m not going to bite ;)

One thing I noticed living abroad (and being a keen cyclist) in various places, is that modern UK cyclists are extremely aggressive. I always rode defensively, my life and that of others is more important to me than anything else. Unfortunately my cycling is limited to recreational time only now due to where I work, but I couldn't imagine commuting in the UK these days on my bike, and unfortunately that is largely due to the attitudes of cyclists here now.

The fact that some cyclists display the same aggressiveness and arrogant attitudes on internet forums/social media proves the point of a lot of people, and this seems to be lost on these cyclists which I find sad.

How can you not see from that picture how sexygreyfox is trying to help keep the flow of traffic on the road moving at the allowed limit by using the pavement? Yes the law does state he should dismount however he's doing his best to try and please everyone here, a bit like a lot of cyclist commuters are. We just don't seem to be able to please everyone. To save from having to legally dismount sexygreyfox just has to stay on the road but when there are parked cars all down one side the cars behind him will just have to cruise along at his cycle speed. He's just trying to not be selfish but with an attitude like yours jpaul you'd be driving him to be selfish and stay on the road and slow motorised traffic. What would you prefer?

Common sense can no longer prevail in this country......

Thank you, the other thing is that in 6 years of using that road I have NEVER seen any pedestrian on that part of the pavement when I've been on it, sounds BS but it's true.
For the 30 or so seconds I'm there it seems no pedestrians are there at the same time on either side of the road and I can also see if people were to come out of their front gardens.
For the sake of pleasing idiot motorists I mount the pavement for a few seconds - wow.

They were all offered the opportunity to pay a fine, but Arnold refused, saying that the footpath had been mixed use further along, and there had been no signage to indicate bicycles were no longer permitted.

It's actually not a bad point around here (Cambridgeshire). Plenty of examples of 'cycle lanes' that are no more than pavements with the odd sign every few dozen metres. At some, apparently random, point the signs end and so at an undefined point you've started breaking the law.
