What do you pay your cleaner?

What do cleaners demand in your area?

Here in west berkshire my cleaner has today announced that her rates will be rising to £10/hour. I feel this is expensive, and have told her that i will have to get back to her at that rate.

Over-reaction? We are talking a raise from £6/hour currently.

sounds like u have been under paying this poor women for a while.... so man up and pay the rise

10phr is an very decent wage. Maybe acceptable in London. But outside London it's a ridiculous wage.

If I'm earning £15 per hour for relatively unskilled labour then I couldn't live with myself paying much less than 2/3's of that to someone who does a similar manual job. I don't think cleaners would struggle to find work at £10 per hour either. Like I said they may be paying for all kinds of cleaning equipment etc out of that.

What do you do, I bet it's not that unskilled. You probably have a lot of training that you just don't realise.

£10 p/h here. Greater London area. I provide all the cleaning stuff etc. It's so nice to come home to a lovely clean house after a hard day at work. I much prefer to pay someone else and then not have to spend a day each week trying to do it myself.

Indeed I also do not have one, for a start I would not want someone else roaming around my house, and for a second I am a bit of a clean freak so doubt I would actualy be happy with the job...

Round here cleaners cost at least £10,000 a job, up front. So if yours is only charging £10 a job I think you've got a very good deal. Though at that rate I would have doubts about their skill and ability to make it look like a proper random slaying. We are talking cleaning in the Leon, AKA Jean Reno sense aren't we? I mean what ponce has a someone come round to tidy up and pays them for it?

My parents pay the cleaner £21 for about 3 hours work so not the best rate it has to be said!

But the cleaner does a decent job and as some have already said it is nice to come home to a clean house :)

My cleaner in West Berkshire charges £11/hour. That's based on 2 hours a week.

£22 to have your house cleaned is a bargain tbh, most people pay more to have their car cleaned.

To the OP, if its only 2 maybe 3 hours as above then the same applies, £20 -£30, to have your house cleaned is a great price.

I don't have one. Like most people I am capable of cleaning up my own mess.

Who cares what you're capable of - if you value your free time then why not pay someone to do it for you - its boring and mundane and if you've got other things to do then why not get someone else to do it.

FWIW - as far as the OP is concerned - we got a polish one at my old house for £8 an hour (this was in London btw...)

If you go with an agency then you will prob pay at least double that though you don't necessarily have to be in the house then when they come round as the agency keeps a set of keys and drops the cleaner off and lets her in.

Thanks for the sensible replies everyone. As i say i think i will express that i think it is expensive, and will require an impeccable job. :)

Non sensible replies, why even bother posting. Its hardly out of the ordinary to have a few people in a few times per week to do odd jobs.
