Have Western Digital drives been reliable for you guys?

I've always been with samsung so i dont know what to think of WD

And how are these drives in general? thinking of going for 320 or 500

Just received my WD MyBook Pro 500GB today, well packaged, well built. Easy to set up (ive set up on a mac and a windows pc). Using it with firewire 400 and USB 2.0 on pc, firewire makes a hell of a difference, if you got firewire 800 then def go for a drive capable for that (MyBook Pro is).

The new samsung external HDD looks quite good too, but the firewire edition ones are pretty pricey. I got my 500GB MyBook Pro for just under £130 delivered.

Btw its more of a silver/grey colour than white.

I have a 250Gb MyBook Pro drive and it is absolutely spot on. I thought it was quite noisy at the start but thats down to the fact that I'd never used an external HD before. Would recommend the Pro version as the firewire 800 is very fast.

i think i've got firewire 800 on my laptop, maybe, but i dont think i can justify spending £30 or whatever it is extra on it  , usb2 seems fast enough, since its only for media

if it is for large media files that is even more reason to go for the firewire 800. Its worth the extra cash!
