Greetings mac folk!

I come from the other side (PC)...
As you may have noticed from my other thread - I am considering a macbook.

However, so many people are using macbooks these days, I cant help but wonder what you all do on them!

So... my question is:

What do you use your macbook for?! Do you use it as a full on computer, or just for when your out and about? Where do you use your macbook?

Thank you mac folk ;)

Got mine for when I'm out at uni. Needed a laptop, so figured it may as well be good and nice to use. Will be running Matlab on it when I get more into my dissertation. 1% of usage comes when I'm sat at my desk.

I use my macbook everywhere really, when its at home its hooked up to a external screen and hifi system so acts as a great destop replacement. But its small enough that you can easily take it anywhere with you and not have to worry.

I use my for web design. flash, photoshop, fireworks, illustrator, ftp program (transmit), programming, msn, internet, email and other random stuff, usually all at the same time.

Got it linked up to a 22in monitor at home with a mouse and keyboard. have it hidden under table so its like a desktop. And as someone previously said, its still small enough to take to uni with me when I need it.

Got it for Uni too... eventho I live home :p

I can carry my laptop to campus e.t.c. to do my coursework on the go, internet, media... basically everything apart from hardcore gaming. My 360 satisfy me on that front :)

Me too :)

I have a console for games so don't miss them.

I don't miss having a desktop PC either, because the macbooks run just great in clamshell mode, mine spends 98% of its time plopped on my desk while I use a separate keyboard and mouse, and both the MBs monitor and my TFT. The fact I can pick it up and take it away is only a bonus really! I find it plenty powerful enough to be my only machine. I use a quad core G5 at work, and for the majority of tasks this doesn't feel particularly slower. Of course once you start hammering Photoshop and making big PDFs from Quark you can tell the difference straight away, but for my day to day personal use I can't even tell the difference.

Dunno! It's almost always plugged in!

Everything, I do still have a windows PC but that only got dragged out recently for Orange Box. I've got Parallels for when I need Visual Studio or SQL Server so it's only really games (beyond Half Life 1 mods) that my Macbook can't do.

MacBook? Pfff. MacBook Pro for me :D

I use mine as an everyday machine, and gave up a desktop gaming rig for mine.

I take it to work, and browse around the house, but my main passions are photograph editing in Photoshop CS3 and using it as a Target FireWire machine in ProTools.

@ gumbald.. the MacBook battery shouldn't deteriorate if left plugged in, but to be safe I full discharge mine once a few months :)

Just let it run down until it gives you a "Running on reserve battery power", then ignore it.. and it will go into sleep.

Let the batteries completely die in sleep mode *the flashing light will go out :p*, and fully recharge it.

Aye, that's good.

Just saying, if you do find the performance drops then give it the ol' discharge thing.

I did this on my old MacBook (core duo) and the battery was not recognised afterwards :( had to get apple to send me a new battery.

Dangerous thing to do if it's not the initial calibration cycle, Li-ion batteries will die if they reach 0v and will refuse to charge and won't be recognised.
