What do your tyres cost?

?

Granted that Pilot Sport 2's are expensive but they outlast any comparable brand. I got 47K front and 27K back from my first set. Can't see you getting anywhere near that from other marques. Even I was surprised.

P

Some people think that because the PS2s last so long (way above 20k miles for me) that they must be rubbish because the tyre is not putting rubber down and using it properly.

Between the PS2 and the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta I now have I can confirm both tyres handle equally in both wet and dry but the Vreds are more comfortable tyres especially on the motorway, the PS2 seemed to be pretty damn hard and gave more road noise than the Vreds do.

The PS2s were also prone to tramlining but that's all down to the car you are putting them on I guess.

235/40/R18 Eagle F1 Assymetrics are/were circa £120 from camskill, managed to get 10k out of a front set so thats fine by me.

i paid £279 for 4 Bridgestone RE010 195/55/15

well worth it though, just a shame they don't seem to be available anymore :(

2 x 225/40 18's at 110 a piece for f1 assymetrics and so far they are superior to the gsd3 they replaced

my new vrs turns up in a few weeks so it will probably be back to contis for a wee while..I went through the original set on this vrs in about 7k miles then the gsd3's which lasted a bit longer..the current f1's are holding up a lot better anf when I come to replace tyres eventually on my new car I will get the assymetrics again with no worries

I normally pay about £80ish a corner next time (which will be soonish) I'm thinking of getting a set of Vredstein ultrac whatever they are lol. Havent read a single bad review of them, good price to :)

Hope they do them in my size!

No, it's because we've seen the figures - under wet braking especially the PS2 is not a brilliant tyre. IIRC it was at least a car length behind something like a Potenza in the wet?

You can't confirm that at all unless you've driven back to back on both and accurately recorded cornering G, aquaplane speed and braking distance under controlled conditions.

Most members of the public can confirm that a Vredstien Ultra Sessenta and a Remould Wan Li handle equally in wet and dry because most people don't reach the limits on public roads in normal driving. But then we don't buy high end tyres so we can drive like idiots in the wet, we buy them because in abnormal driving, ie an emergency situation, they could be the difference between an accident and a close shave.

I've read a few tests where the PS2s have placed 1st or second in tyre comparisons, this was awhile ago though when I had them on my scoob. I'm surprised, always thought of them as a fairly decent tyre, up there with the best of their competition.

I've not seen a single one where they did and as far as I know only Evo and Autocar ever publish proper tests - we'll ignore autoexpress because its a bunch of photoshop fanboys publishing manufacturer press releases :D

Just bought four of these at £156 each plus fitting.(normally about £200).

You were robbed, had these on the ST from the factory and nowhere near as good as Vred Sessantas at half the price.

Edit those are run flats though so you are limited :). But why not carry a can of tyre foam?

Pretty sure I read an earlier test a few years ago from here
Previous Test Rank: 2nd (October ’07), 2nd (August ‘07), 1st (June ‘04)

I'm sure there was a South African or Australian EVO tyre test that had them 1st as well, I'll have a look. Not too fussed as I don't use them anymore, just surprised they are not as highly thought of as I assumed.

Could not find the EVO review, it may have been CAR mag, but Car and Driver magazine had them second place in both wet and dry braking and Which magazine seem to do a pretty fair tyre test have them down as their best buy. Perhaps it is a very vehicle specific tyre or something.

*ahem*

Anybody buying contisport 3s

have a read of the evo tyre test (http://www.liam27.com/stuff/EVO_TyreTest_2007_GTI.pdf)

Considering they are actually some of the most expensive tyres you can buy, they are a complete rip !
