What does everyone think about the Ye Shiwen swimming performance?

Dont they drug test anyone who wins a medal or are they implying she slipped through the net and got a drug equal of an out board motor in her system

Medal winners are tested, as are pretty much anyone competing internationally in the build ups to the Olympics.

BBC news said she had been tested 4 times in the year prior to the Olympics, plus presumably now twice during.

She was simply quick. Some people just can't accept "because she is quick" as an answer though.

Not saying she is actually using drugs, but it would be very easy for China as a nation to develop a new performance enhancing drug that the testers don't yet know about.
She may not even know she's been taking it (i.e. adding to any supplements she uses)

Anyway, the above is highly unlikely to be true, so well done her for such a great performance

They now take your DNA photograph and cold storage samples for future testing don't they? And can come back and revoke your medals?

Has to be a big deterrent for these athletes in the main focus for the games?

However I hope its one of those very special performances that make the Olympics worth watching - something out of the ordinairy.

The BBC did a program before the Olympics about the 1984 drug tests. One guy has actually kept all the blood in a fridge since then, he took them out to try with modern tests but stopped because he said it would be too depressing to find out how large a percentage were doped and won

That American coach should just shove a bunch of sour grapes down his throat and choke on it.

I mean all this media attention for Ye Shiwen and yet we now also have a 15 year old Lithuanian girl who wins gold and she gets so much praise. Now granted that the race type and performances are different between the two, but still.....!

Mr John Leonard, you jealous that China is rising up in the swimming?

It's amusing how everyone is suspicious of the girl using illegal drugs because of her time, implying that Lochte does not.

Does anyone really think that all Olympics athletes are not doped to the eyeballs with all legal performance enhancing drugs, and those that can find something that is not detected by the antidoping tests (i.e. the nations that can spend the most money on this stuff) will fill up with that as well?

The dopers have always been steps ahead than WADA anyway, so it's implausible that the top athletes are clean. All of them.

There is no way you can compete at that level by drinking orange juice.
