What does J. Carragher think of G. Neville then?

initially he refused to condemn his actions in the interview but then he did a column in the liverpool echo saying the line was crossed.

Personally I've been at football games where we've been hurling abuse at a player and hen he scores against us or something and he gives a bit back. tit for tat i say. Just because your a fan doesn't give you the right to shout loads of abuse or rather it doesn't give you the right to demand that you get no abuse back.

Ahh, I see, still, it made me chuckle.

I don't believe inciting the crowd should be punishment, it's give and take with the fans and players. I've hurled abuse at players only for them to score and celebrate into our fans, didn't bother me. He scored, he should be entitled to celebrate in any manner he sees fit.

The reason why he should be reprimanded is simple. It was a dangerous act to do, not just for his own safety, but for the crowds.

Imagine if a few beered up scallies decided to hop over the ad boards and smack him one. Cue a load of beered up Man Utd fans dishing out revenge either during or after the game. There is a potential for injury to both fans and players, which is simply too much of a risk. Furthermore, it increased the crowd tension in what is already a difficult fixture to police.

I am not suggesting players should never rub it in to away fans when they score or otherwise. I am suggesting that they do not go over the top like Gary Neville did.

WANTED: DEAD OR MAIMED

Mr Gary Neville, 30, is wanted by police in connection with a serious incident near Manchester's Trafford DevilBowl on Sunday afternoon. Neville was caught on CCTV committing the recently outlawed activity of displaying passion during a football match. His conduct was an affront to the mature sensibilities of enlightened, right-thinking persons who had endeavoured to build bridges between the cities of Manchester and Liverpool during the game by singing hymns such as: "Are you watching Georgie Best?" and "Who's that dying on the runway?" Police would also like to question Mr Neville in connection with the suspicious death of a whale in the London area.

Mr Neville is of average height and appearance and is distinctive only through whispy facial b*mfluff and an extremely irritating voice. He should not be approached under any circumstances, especially in tunnels in the Highbury district of London when a Mr Royston Keane is in the vicinity. When found guilty, Neville will be put in front a firing squad consisting of Djibril Cisse and a tall man resembling "Timmah!" from South Park - his prospects of survival are rated "very good".

Gissagong FC defender Sir James Carragher CBE has fully endorsed the manhunt. "There is a line and Neville crossed it," opined the calm, rational figure that famously threw a coin at Highbury spectators in 2002 and held five fingers up to Rowdies supporters after the two sides drew 0-0 in September. "I've heard people say it's justified because he gets a lot of stick from the Gissagong fans, but he gets the stick because he's been doing that for years," Sir Jamie continued before possibly concluding: "Look at me when I banged in two at the wrong end for United against Liverpool in 1999: I didn't celebrate then, did I eh? Eh? Eh?"

FBI sources have confirmed that Hollywood star Keanu Reeves is being questioned over allegations that he has incited every single gun-related crime since filming The Matrix in 1999. But reports that a black armband-endorsed minute's silence will be held for a dead whale before Gissagong FC's next home game are as yet unconfirmed.

I think the whole thing has been blown out of proportion. Number 1 it was at Old Trafford in front of 90%+ Utd fans, Liverpool are our main rivals, it is the biggest fixture for many people. Liverpool dominated the game for 70 minutes, millions expected us to lose. Gary Neville has been doing that sort of thing for years, I'd agree with the referee if he had been yellow carded but involving the police and FA when 'nothing' did happen after the game is taking it a bit too far.

I didn't see him doing anything that any other footballer wouldn't do, in a heated match with their biggest rivals and winning the game in the dying minutes.

If he had done that at Anfield in a similarly paced game then there's a proper case. ;)

He wishes :p

I'm pretty sure I know what Jamie thinks of him and Gilly got it pretty much spot on

Wasn't it Carra and Neville involved in the "car window" incident a few years ago ?

I should think Sir James Carragher should perchance concentrate more on his man marking on corners than to offer opinions of the opposing team's captain celebration of a winning goal.
Or indeed, to convince his genius manager to buy some decent strikers.

It can get quite ugly this but maybe the Liverpool fans and Mr Carragher himself should think before opening their mouth. Lets not forget it was the Liverpool fans before, during and after the game hurling abuse at Utd Fans from their buses about Munich and singing some pretty choice songs about George Best. If anyone was going to cause a riot it was them. The so called line was crossed long before Gary Neville went over to them. If you don't like it then don't dish it out.

nope, he was too busy decking the guy who was meant to be on Rio. ;)

Of course the Man Utd fans were innocent. All fans are as bad as each other and will sing nasty things about the club, player dead or alive.

I don't think it was really that bad what Neville did, it wasn't the most intelligent thing to do, but after all he isn't exactly intelligent.

Wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to be pap. Was good in Holland but i think Villareal only played him 6 times before allowing him to move on. Still i suppose the scouts must have seen something in him.

The George Best song to which you refer was in no way derogatory to George Best IMO

"Are you watching Georgie Best ?"

Surely this was a reference to how poor the current team are and were playing and that they were a shadow of George Best etc , it was the current team being abused and not the memory of George Best

Re Oedipus Neville , I have no real problem with what he did, players with spirit are always welcome in the game , having said that he is still an annoying little turd as Gilly so eloquently described him :p
