I have an essay due in tomorrow and I have left it to the last minute... I was wondering if any of you guys knew what this meant:

You have been tasked to improve relationships between your enterprise and your suppliers. Currently, competitive tendering, lowest price purchasing and confrontational approaches including goods inwards inspection are practiced. Using the EFQM Excellence Model as a framework, describe how you would move towards a partnership relationship, including an analysis of what support would be required for success.

I know what "goods inwards inspection" is, but what on Earth are confrontational approaches? Other than that, I have nearly completed the essay :)

I'd assume...

Speaking from experience here people who deliver goods just what to drop and be gone asap as often the timescales are very tight. So I'd guess they don't like having to wait for the goods to be inspected/accounted for?

But god knows, seems odd.

It means that you are not developing a balanced relationship with your suppliers based upon trust, but instead are monitoring, testing and entering them into competition at every opportunity.

Something non-confronatational would be to work with the suppliers to improve quality and JIT delivery rather than constantly informing them where they are going wrong.
