How about The Wicker Man?

Chances of it being set in America, with all nudity and religious references removed? High.

Odds of Nicolas Cage bursting out of the wicker man at the last moment with a machine gun? Moderate to good.

I'm not saying it'll suck completely........... I'm just typing it.

But seriously, they've admitted that the slump in box office takings this year was down to a poor selection of badly made movies, and whilst a lot of these remakes would be fairly good in their own right if they weren't actually remakes they always fare badly when compared to their superior predecessors. The only stereotypical move that appears to be missing from this remake is a Britt Ekland cameo as a witch or something.

 No naked Brit Ekland banging seducing the copper!? How could they!?

This has been in production for a while now afaik. Remakes are all a matter of opinion. For example (although I know lots will disagree) The remake of The Ring and Amityville horror were great, especially the ring. Although it's not hard to beat the pile of trash that was the original. Although the remake of TCM was terrible (so i've heard).

I'm sorry, did I read that correctly?
You are rating "The Ring" - US remake as a better film than "Ring" - original?
They turned a film that was spooky & scary with some pretty amazing atmosphere into the usual US we'll scare them with a change in the music score film.
The original Ring is a far better film - no competition.

I'm with stoofa the original ring is very good, I havn't seen the remake though. Maybe you just don't like reading subtitles suicidle_tramp. ;)

And why are they remaking The Wicker Man? thats just stupid, especially if they American it up.

I thought the original ring was boring, slow and not in the least bit spooky or scary. Our lass didn't find it scary either, and she jumps at anything.

i thought they both were lol.

I thought this year was a great year for films as it goes. However remakes are always crap (99% of the time). I see they make no mention of the fact that ticket prices and piracy are such an issue that people would prefer to sit and watch a dodgy dvd recorded on a handy cam in a cinema than pay £7 a pop to go and see it.

That's just like Hollywood, that.

I haven't seen the remake so I've no idea how it stacks up, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if the remake was better.

I want to see a remake of the A-Team, tongue-in-cheek style!

George Clooney as Hannibal
Michael Clarke Duncan as BA Baracus
Owen Wilson as Face
Jim Carrey as Murdock

It's a winner!

All these remakes drive me mad  This and films that only have CGI/effects to their credit.

Remember the good old days when they produced great original character based movies such as Breakfast Club. Who'd have thought a film about five kids in a room could be good? These days, if it's not a remake or had $100,000,000 spent on effects, it's not made.

Spooky and scary? I'd get more creeped out walking past a 12 year old charver. It wasn't scary even with the lights off.

Nope, it was because it wasn't scary. I've seen a fair few foriegn films and I don't mind about subtitles ;) The Grudge was scary tbh, the ring just wasn't.

I'm with Gilly. My girlfriend is like yours, she got jumpy during that scene in the basement in War of the Worlds. Might have to see if she'll watch it ;)

This has been a bad year for remakes, having said that, still to see King Kong.

They are doing a remake of The Warriors, how bad is that? Although the original looks a bit Gay just now, it was a product of its time and an excellant flick. They did a remake of The Flight of the Phoenix, it was total and utter garbage. War of the Worlds was only good to look at the special effects.

Hollywood must be running out of ideas, if it's not remakes it's re-writing history, Tom Cruise is reportedly starring in a new film about the Battle of Britain called The Few About an American pilot who did fly Spitfires in the Battle of Britain, but in real life never shot down one enemy aircraft and ended up getting shot down himself ....

What's the betting Hollywood do another re-write of history as in the Enigma machine travesty in U-571, Cruise shoots down half the Luftwaffe and saves the day ... Its getting pathetic IMHO.

A good movie is a very rare breed indeed these days :(

That film is the worst portrayal of pagans I have ever seen. It sickens me anyone would remake it

Lol indeed it's portrayal of pagan was completely and utterly innacurate. But that aside, I thought the film was fantastic and definately deserving of it's "classic" status.

TBH the ideas that came out in the first year coursework in my class were better than what hollywood is throwing out!
Why not go to an arthouse cinema and see some films if your fed up with the stuff at the odeon?
