What game wowed you the most when you first played it?

Gran Turismo 1+3. MGS3. Crysis. Supreme Commander.

That probably covers it for me, for each of them when I saw them for the first time I was in awe at how good they looked, how they were all one step ahead of anything else out at the time. Supreme Commander and Crysis both still remain just a step ahead of everything else in some respects. Crysis on the amazing graphics, and SupCom for the sheer scale of it.

Dragon's Lair - Arcade - There was nothing like it... Other than Space Ace. ;)

Sensible World of Soccer - A1200 - The game was just awesome.

Alien V Predator - Atari Jaguar - **** me cacks countless times.

UT GoTY Edition - PC - Played it for years for just the mod value.

MoH:AA - PC - Still the best WWII FPS i've played.

BF2 - PC - For the countless ways you can attack, the maps are the same, but the game never is.

Somebody was running a jap import copy of gran tris.

No idea what the game was at the time, but the replay was running, id never seen anything like it before.

Nothing else has ever touched that moment, a giant leap thats unlikely to be surpased.

Half-life: The intro had me hooked instantly. Such a great start to a game.

Ultima Online: Blown away the first time I played it, lots of people, constantly changing world - amazing!

Dark Age of Camelot: First proper 3D MMORPG I played (yes pre-WoW) and it all looked and worked brilliantly, by then I was so use to the 2D isometric style of UO.

In terms of graphics 'wow factor', the following spring to mind:

  • The original Alone in the Dark, loaded the demo on my uncle's 486 (didn't load on my 386sx 16 :( ) and was absolutely gobsmacked.
  • The demo for Another World
  • Leaving the spaceship in Unreal for the first time, especially that waterfall.
  • Loading Quake in GLIDE mode after buying a voodoo 1 board.
  • Morrowind
  • The many 'demoscene' productions in the 386/486 days.
  • Doom
  • Half Life (1) intro
  • Magic Carpet
All I can think of off hand.

Medal of Honor:AA

Played that game for four solid years.

Never have I played something that much for that long before. EPIC fun.

FS 2004 in 2nd, but its once or twice a month or when im doing testing for someone.

Day of Defeat Source is my biggest wow game.

Most balanced team game i've ever found without being too slow or too over the top and most importantly, rifles own the ground in distance and smg's are definitely for close-quarters; no across map spray fails!
