What game wowed you the most when you first played it?

Team Fortress, the original. First time I jumped in I was amazed, got my ass handed to me all night but didn't care, I was in love :D If the Blue fort had a post code I think my missus would have forwarded my mail to it...

28.8 k modem, almost as big a WOW moment was the £400 phone bills!

Sonic 3D: Flickies Island on the Megadrive - I couldn't believe how AMAZING the graphics were. :p

Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast - similar thing, but at the time, this was pure gaming perfection as far as I was concerned. Nothing will ever come close to making me feel how that game made me feel.

Call of Duty 4 on the PC - I know everyone will be expecting it, but the story was just absolutely sublime. I've never felt so emotionally invested in game's story, nor it's characters. What a truly awesome experience playing that through for the first time was, I can't think of one thing that I could do to make it better.

I think it was Flashback on the megadrive. Got it for Christmas and I just remember watching the intro video over and over again. The game was massive and kinda rpg for a platformer, it took me months to complete.

The intro to Mechwarrior 2 also blew me away, although I could never get the hang of that game as much as a I loved it, I think I was to young to pilot the mechs :D

Nice to see Flashback and Carmageddon being mentioned. 2 great games. Carmageddon was so fun for me but my PC at the time was struggling to run it well so I bought a Voodoo 2 card and sent it off to a PC repair shop place. Took about a week to get back. Literally takes 30 seconds at most to install a card like that (small in comparison to todays monster cards). Still annoys me that does because they charged like a tenner for it as well. Good job I fit everything my self these days

Everquest. First MMO i ever played, and i couldn't keep my jaw off the desk the whole time for the first few weeks, everything about it just screamed epic (to me, at least!)

Mario 64 at the ECTS show. Got a 5 minute go and that analogue pad was awesome!!

Seconded. Mario 64 is still the most perfect game I can think of. Golden Eye also blew me away, as did Super Mario World 1 & 2.

The first PC game that really floored me was Half Life - nothing since has put me in the shoes of the protagonist nearly as much.

I don't really remember a game specifically making me go "wow" but the game that had the biggest impact on me was Counter-Strike. About 7 years ago a Internet/Gaming Café opened up in town and as a promotion it was free all day. On the day I was introduced to the World of Network FPS Gaming and I've never looked back since!

Was it just me (because I was rubbish) or was Half-Life 1 really difficult since you always had very low ammo and it was really hard to find more?

Half Life singleplayer seemed really hard for me when I first played it at 13. I remember having to read the gamespot guide to get past certain parts.

Moonstone, Sensible World of Soccer and Cannon fodder on Amiga
Night Trap on Mega CD
Street Fighter 2 on snes
Resident Evil 2

Same here,it was my first mmo ( at lvl 5 i got lost in west commons and died in the lake my mate a lvl 15 war tried to get my corpse and died too).

Everquest was the first game i ever played when i thought WOW, back in 99 it was fantastic walking around such a large massive playable area interacting with other people!

Lol, get over it? £10 from 8 or so years ago.. Jesus.

Ultima Online can never be beaten for sheer wow factor, mainly because of when it was released. It seems run of the mill now to have 100's of players together now, but not back in '97. Then the game itself just sealed the deal.
