What game wowed you the most when you first played it?

Electron - Repton - one of the most addictive games on the planet
Amiga - Prince of persia - stunning animation for the time
Amiga - Shadow of the beast - simply amazing... but how hard???
Amiga - Agony - The animation of the owl still looks quite impressive lol
Amiga - Speedball 2 - just awesome for gameplay
Dreamcast - Soul Calibur - The game is perfect! - graphics and game play are flawless.
XBOX - Soul Calibur 2 - Just as good as the first one!
PC - half-life - probably the best game ever made
PC - half-life 2 - outstanding
PC - Portal - How Cool???
PC - Crysis, graphics are superb.

... got a bit carried away there...

Hmm, for me:

1.Tomb Raider PC/PS1
2.Quake PC
3.Mario 64 N64
4.Half-life PC
5.Hidden and Dangerous PC
6.Thief PC
7.Myth PC
8.Unreal Tournament PC
9.Deus Ex PC
10.Metal Gear Solid 2 PS2

Elite on the C64
Dungeon Master and Populous on the Amiga

I saw Doom running at ECTS one year. My jaw hit the ground. I knew I had to get a PC from that moment.

Overall I'd have to say Quake 2 though. I loved that game and spent years playing it online.

Road Rash - Couldn't believe at the time I could play a game where I get to ride around bashing people with crowbars!

GTA - For similar reasons to road rash, the shock factor of being able to play a game like that.

FFVII - Stunning game.

Porsche Challenge - I clearly had very low expectations when I got my PSX :D

Quake 2 - First FPS I ever really got into (Doom was great but for some reason I didnt click with it)

hrmm games that wowed me...

Elite - just for being Elite

Pools of radiance in black n white CGA on my moms pc (5.25 discs!) I thought it was amazing rpg with uber graphics etc.

Sensible Soccer maybe because it let me play footie like Brazil

World of Warcraft in closed beta, i thought it was amazing when running around and seeing other players running around aswell, also when i entered ironforge for the first time :D

wow i forgot another one, warzone 2100, that IMO was WAAAY before its time, that still tops most RTS games, shame about the visuals, wish someone would make a sequel TBH! first RTS i played with research, customisable vehicles amongst other things, plus the story wasn't half bad and nexus was immense to fight, it had everything! all i remember is that horrible 'LASAT firing!' and annihilating my attack force all the time! :D

Of recent games I remember thinking "wow" when I downloaded and ran the Crysis demo back in 2007.

Also........anyone remember Terminator Future Shock of around 1996? Now that was a "wow" game :D

Tough to choose one. Here's some of my biggest wowsers:

-Forsaken: For the OMG-WOW-BANG-WHEEE-KABLOOEY! explosions and over the top lighting effects. The game I showed console fanbois to show what a PC was capable of. It looks a bit OTT now, but back then lens flare and coloured lighting were all the rage.
-Quake: The fact I'm still playing it over 10 years later speaks volumes for just how good the multiplayer is. So good in fact that I played it offline against bots for months before getting an internet connection
-Civilisation: For the depth and attention to detail
-Unreal: Stepping off the Vortex Rikers for the first time, marvelling at the huge open environment and power of the engine.
-Championship Manager '93/94: Much like Civ, great depth and so much better than rival products.
-Elite: Nothing to say.
-Carmageddon: Wow, a proper open-ended driving game with the emphasis on FUN! Heck, you can win without passing a single checkpoint!
-Serious Sam demo: Crikey, this was a pleasant surprise! I stumbled on it months after release, having read some article comparing it to the glory days of Doom2 where you'd get 30 baddies on screen at once. Even the tech demo section had me spooging.
-Far Cry: Only game since Unreal to have me in awe at the engine, lovely open environments with gorgeous looking water and trees.

Interesting to note that with the exception of Serious Sam and Far Cry, all my choices are over 10 years old.

Elite - first time i felt immersed in a game.

Delta Force 1 - First online game couldn't beleive i was playing real people.
