What games first got you into PC gaming ?

Just wanted a PC and it all snowballed from as I got myself a copy of Colin McRae Rally 2 and a Microsoft Force Feedback wheel, followed by Medal of Honour Allied Assault, RTCW and Half-Life!

Boy did I have fun with that wheel though, used to play Driver until it smelled like burning plastic! It still worked fine until a few years back when I took it to a charity shop, painful moment that was!

First game I actually remember enjoying was The Hobbit on Commodore 64.

To think we used to type things like "N" to go north, and then wait for the next screen to load...

..."You are in a large open area, exits are North, West ....."
Oh I had that on the ZX Spectrum, had quite a few of them, had a Dracula one I remember, also Questprobe featuring The Hulk, think their was a few Marvel text adventure games, also Terrormolinos, Colditz!

and very early ms flightsim, you could land a space shuttle :)
double dragon, battle chess, 3d tetris all the greats :p
day of tentacle, sam and max later on

the realisation that games like Colonization, Civilization, UFO and Frontier ran miles better on a 2mb 386 sx25 than my amiga 500

oh and Doom (and to a lesser extant Command & Conquer later on)

All those games use the CPU tons. I completed Battleisle on the amiga, turn based warfare conquest and the later missions would take like a day to process the computers move. Amiga had no FPU ? neither did the sx actually but I guess it went faster

The first PC game was likely one on the earlier Championship Manager games. The first multiplayer (internet) game was Delta Force which at the time blew my mind, the gunfire, explosions and all round mayhem.

Duke Nukem 3D was the game that made me ask for a PC as a kid. Games like GTA, Quake and Thief made me realise PC gaming was the way forward.

Wolfenstein, Doom and Quake played around mates after school. When I actually got my own PC I first played Half-life and AvP.

Scorched Tanks.

Visiting an uncle in Southampton was always to be looked forward to. He had a PC, something none of us had used or owned as we were wee nippers sporting only a Megadrive and MegaCD at the time. He had a PC running Windows 95 and a game called Scorched Tanks. If anyone remembers Worms and Liero then you'll know the deal. It's a mix of the two and had to be launched froma run command via the CD-ROM.

It was multiplayer on one screen and we had endless hours of fun plotting artillery fire trajectories and blasting siblings and cousins off the map.

Years later it lead to a unanimous love for the Worms series and so it all began.

the game that made me get my first PC was Counterstrike. Dialup, 200-300 ping was considered "low" and headshots + bunny hopping was to be expected. Back then you anticipated lag and adapted. None of this "must have gaming mouse f4tal1ty xx?£ v1.2 nonsense.
