The time for a new mouse is nearing, my current MX518 is getting tired and worn. I've always been a firm believer in the MX518, I've owned three of them and they're amazing mice - especially when you factor in their low cost. That said and done, they're showing their age when you compare other optics, resolutions and feature sets... so I'm currently wondering (hesitantly) about switching to another mouse.

Current thoughts are:

Sidewinder X8: low latency wireless, decent optics, but rubbish aesthetics imo.
Cyborg Rat 5: Great customization and stunning aesthetics, nifty thumb-switch for on-the-fly DPI lowering - but apparently has a rubbish sensor that moves during re-aim
Razer Deathadder: olden but golden - proven track record, but with nothing special about it.
Logitech G500: cheap, similar to MX518, massive DPI, but fugly upper case.

What's your weapon of choice, and why?

Coolermaster Sentinel Advance is what I use now - overall I think I like it the best out of the ones I've had in the past (Deathadder & Lachesis).

For me it's the most comfortable mouse that I've used and on the fly DPI works well.

Good old MS Wheel Mouse Optical 1.1a - reliable, responsive sensor, light neutral shape that works well for finger tip users. Only mouse I've used that has a better sensor is the DeathAdder but I don't like the shape of that :(

Something really annoys me about the newer gaming mice.

I use a low sens and lift my mouse a lot to bring it back to centre, all new mice pick this up and track slightly. Usually moves the xhair down slightly.

Deathadder does it, my brand new Imperator does it :(

My razer diamondback never did this, I want one again :(

Never had that with the deathadder - pretty much all laser mice do it tho which is one of the reasons I dislike them for gaming.

MX518. Love the shape, size, weight and button placements.

I also use it at 800DPI.. it suits me perfectly for FPS shooters.

I am currently using the Lachesis, which fits my hands quite well. It is comfortable to use and changing the DPI is easy with the two buttons below the scroll wheel. I used to have problems with the mouse suddenly jumping across the screen, but these problems have gone through driver upgrades.

Currently thinking about the Mamba for wireless, but at the moment the Lachesis can stay on my desk.

Logitech G5. It's a good mouse, comfortable to use. It's only really put one foot wrong in the two or more years I've had it which is that the scroll wheel has been acting up for the last six months, it's either annoyingly sensitive in games or annoyingly unsensitive. When I'm on Counter Strike if I touch the side of the wheel really lightly it'll decide it thinks I want to change weapons - usually at the most inconvenient time possible! The scroll wheel is still perfectly useable though.

I've never really bothered with DPI settings and all of that stuff, out of the box it felt great to use so I haven't bothered with any settings.
