Hi,

I have been tasked with getting some gin for someone who likes gin & tonic. What gin should I get? I don't drink alcohol so any advice would be really appreciated!

Thanks,
Jon

I'd go for Hendrick's if you're not spending too much. Lovely gin and a nice bottle which always helps when it's a present.

Hard to say really as everyone has their own favourite. Mine's Sipsmith. Might be worth asking them so you can get one they prefer, or maybe one they've never tried before.

How much do you want to spend?

Bombay Sapphire is excellent, and anyone who drinks gin will appreciate it.
Hendrick's is also good, but some people really don't like it. Good present though.

You're a bit limited I guess, because of the closeness to Christmas (assuming it's a Christmas present). However, supermarkets will sell Sapphire and Hendrick's. The Co-Op has an offer on Sapphire atm.

Thanks for the suggestions! I was thinking about £20 and will be getting it from a supermarket.

You can't go wrong with Bombay Sapphire.

people who like bombay, love it, people who don't like it hate it. I love Gin and hate bombay. Would rather have gordons (and hate that)

If I was told someone was a gin drinker I would stay safe with tanqueray (or tanqueray ten if you want to spend more) or plymouth- something not overly aromatic

tanqueray will be in supermarkets

I have just bought someone a hendricks for christmas but because I know it's their favourite, I'm not wild about it

You're the first gin drinker I've heard say they hate Bombay! I've given it to many a non gin drinker and they've enjoyed it. Madness.

I suppose you're right that Tanqueray is a bit more 'neutral'.

It's a bird's gin all that floral aromatic stuff going on;)

If you have a Waitrose within easy reach, any of the following would make a fine gift for a gin drinker.

Sipsmith (£26), Hendricks (£25), Tanqueray Rangpur (£24), Hoxton (£25), The London Gin No. 1 (£26).

Don't get them something like Gordons, Bombay or normal Tanqueray - whilst the latter two are perfectly acceptable, try to broaden their horizons a little.

If someone bought me a bottle of Tanqueray Rangpur or London Gin I'd consider myself to be very fortunate indeed.

I love my bombay but my Mother hates it along with beefeater etc and she will only drink Gordon's

Bombay Sapphire is a gin for non gin drinkers.

My personal favourite is Plymouth Gin (Navy Strength) but I can also recommend Tanqueray 10

Hendriks is nice but has a very different taste. (Drink it with a slice of cucumber rather than lime)
