What graphics card to get for £155

I'd describe them as the no-frills type (most of the time). I haven't seen anything to suggest they break more often or are unreliable.
 
As long as its a safe buy. I can't seem to find any reviews on that connect3D XT card. What kind of performance increase does it have over that HIS 512MB card?

It is over my budget you see, the HIS already is a little over my budget inc. postage and the connect3D is even more so, but if there is significant performance increase a tenner isn't much. I just don't want to get wacked with the mrs handbag!

Well it has higher clocks and 48 shader units as opposed to 36. The memory makes virtually nil difference at 1280x1024.
 
Well according to that PSU calculator

High end system
Single CPU
Intel E6600 Conroe
2 Sticks of DDR2
1 S-ata drive
1 DVDRW
4 USB devices

And with either of those cards I got 437W with Pro and 549W with XT!
 
The "high-end system" option probably exaggerates it somewhat.

296W with "regular desktop" selected but the same parts as above.

I'm guessing regular would cover email, web browsing, chat type of usage and high-end covers gaming, 3d rendering and more demanding tasks.

Whats your spec sr4470?

No, because thats covered by the CPU usage and system usage % located further along in the options...

I put in the same otherwise:

Single CPU
Intel E6600 Conroe
2 Sticks of DDR2
1 SATA drive
1 DVD-RW
4 USB devices
 
I would grab the Connect3D X1950XT too in that price range.
Great card & your Antec 550W PSU should power that no problems.

However if it really bothers you & you want to save a few quid get the HIS X1950pro, its not too far behind performance wise.

It ends up being bang on or close to my overal wattage. I don't really want to run the risk of any more problems that I've already had. Already had to RMA my motherboard and now my GPU.

So I've decided I'm going to stick with the X1950 Pro. Havent yet decided though to go for:

HIS 512MB
Sapphire ULTIMATE 256MB

:rolleyes: I'm awful aren't i lol
 
I'm always like this when I go out shopping!

No chance, I don't wanna risk it. I'm sticking with the Pro definately. Just been reading this review on the ULTIMATE. The HIS comes out on top for almost everything except wattage which is hardly noticable anyway. Its cooler, faster and a better performer.
