What happened to great music in games ?

Speedball 2, I used to love that game. Played it for months on the Megadrive, the biggest challenge was that you could only save at the end of a season via a 45 digit code that you had to write down..,

Here’s my votes for great music from earlier gaming.

Flashback: couldn’t believe what I was watching when I played this for the first time in my megadrive on Christmas

Cool spot bonus round rave music, still a banger to this day!

For all its flaws, World of Warcraft still has amazing sound design and music

YES! Thankfully someone else who appreciates the megadrive version of this game. The SNES soundtrack is garbage in comparison

quake 3 had a mental sound track

also the Rocket Arena 3 soundtrack for quake were mental especially the ones by James Grote

think it was alienation and razor edge.

I remember having alienation on constant loop when playing RA3 as you could select what soundtrack you wanted to listen to.

Personally was disappointed by the Quake 3 sound track after 1 and 2 - found most of the tracks far too discordant - 1-2 tracks aside which really meshed with the levels they were designed for.

I have lots of nostalgia from the Commodore 64 and Amiga era but there are two that stand out from PC gaming.

GTR, the build up to the electric guitar at around 1:30 is just excellent.

And Morrowind. I played the game for so many hours, and the music is perfect.

Must have been mentioned before but for me it doesn't get any better than Outrun arcade. The memories of the sit down cabinet on a pier in Blackpool with Magical Sound Shower pumping out - classic!
