Just wondering if anyone else has has been in the same situation/felt the same...

I've been a PC gamer for a solid 6 years now,But what the hell has happened to pc games these days?

I feel that it has gone downhill bigtime,Games been released so buggy they are unplayable...and the ones that are do not live up to their hype (Dead island).

They are all getting the same,Especially FPS..I tried out the BF3 Alpha and it did not impress me at all just the same old stuff running around with a gun which..Yes i know thats what you do in a FPS but im betting give it a few months that will also be boring.

Then you got the whole DRM copy protection that just causes annoyance to the legit user most of the time,Then you got added on stuff like Windows live which limits the amount of times you can activate your own game and if you active it too many times your stuffed for online (GTA IV is a good example.)

Then on top of that...most pc games today you cannot resell because their keys get tied on services such as Steam etc....then we cant even sell our steam accounts.

I thought about packing up pc gaming,Selling my gaming system and buying a new new TV...and getting a PS3....no hastle and i can still et my gaming fix.

I know it sounds like im a moaning old git :p,But maybe we could have a debate on this issue....where will it ever end?

*YAWN*

I put forward that we suspend anyone that starts a "where is pc gaming going/pc gaming is dead" thread from right now!

It's a boring subject that has been done to death!

Not what im asking for...im asking for up todate thoughts not outdated threads from years ago when there probably was a few good pc games out.

He could link you to several in the last 4 weeks!

Plenty of good PC games out, Right now is a GREAT time for PC games.

A lot has changed in 6 years, new technology and advancements in game coding and complexity, from features to MMO bosses, to community support. 3D Gaming etc, it's not an 8-bit world any more, things are buggy, get over it... it'll get fixed, DRM? Who cares, want companies to waste their money on protection that doesn't work, let them. Pirates still get hold of it without any issue anyway.

The 'PC' require a lot of resourcefulness from the community to make things even more amazing. Want an easy gaming life style, buy your PS3 and TV and don't forget to shut the door on the way out.

People are entitled to their opinion, you pointed out certain games that have let YOU down. Nothing has happened to PC gaming just because things didn't live up to YOUR standards. I don't want to seem closed minded, but there is nothing to debate, PC gaming is on the up and the only thing that has changed is technological advances, maybe its you that has changed.

I think the reasons are mainly 2 fold.
1. Consoles taking over a larger chunk of the gaming community due to ease online gaming, companies are selling out to them and porting to PC.
2. We're getting old.

As for the BF3 Alpha, do not judge a game completely in BETA stage let alone ALPHA....

Personally I think gaming has really taken off over the last year. Some great titles and with the Steam sales at great prices. PC Gaming has never looked better!

Thankyou...someone thats not been an arse with the smart moderator wonnabe comments.

But i think you are probably right,Maybe it is me thats changed....i was speaking to my friend last night and he said maybe just sell your pc...take a very long break and then when you feel like you want to return then you can buy newer up todate parts and pc game again.
Not sure.:p

I know BF3 isnt that far away now,I already have pre-order and paid for it a long time ago...so i could see what thats like and how it keeps my attention,But if i do loose intrest i think that will be it for me for quite a while.

Thanks for the comments Rossi~ & The Asgard :)

PC gaming is great, better than ever infact.

I am looking forward to numerous games on the PC but still buying a few on console either bcause I have to such as Killzone3 or GoW3 because I want split screen coop. TBH if you need to sell your computer for a TV then I probably would get a better job. A PC isn't somethig you get if you don't have a telly.

DRM? just get steam.

Hype, that's your fault.

blah blah blah pc gaming dead whine whine STOP BUYING THE **** CONSOLE PORTS AND BUY THE GOOD PC GAMES THEN.

yes there WAS a long peroid of time where PC gaming was on the downhill slide but PC gaming is now on the up,a lot more made for pc games coming out and a lot more investment in pc games from the big dev houses

I suggest you have a good look around the internet at what is actually going on rather than just proclaiming doom and gloom ;)

It sounds like you're getting tired of games. Things living up to the hype that you've perceived isn't really something you can quantify as going downhill as it's entirely subjective. For example, I've been playing Dead Island with some friends and really enjoying it, would that qualify me to claim PC gaming is actually going uphill based on my own subjective opinion on a game?

A lot more games are being released on PC than ever before so I think it's fair to say a lot more rubbish games will also be released in general. There are however a reasonable amount of very very good games, a large amount of good games, and so on.

As for the likes of DRM, it's of course a fair point, but limited activations or the fact that you can't sell games on doesn't alter the state of a game itself, it might leave a bad taste, so to speak, but the game would be the same either way. Not that I'm advocating them doing it, but it's just that.

It's not just limited to PC games any more either, serial keys are being introduced with Console games to limit the secondhand market, with EA wanting to charge people £10 to "activate" a secondhand game to enable them to play online. This is just greedy companies looking for ways to be even more greedy, rather than a reflection of the state of PC gaming.

There's always been buggy games, but again it'll be a case of more games being released (and it really is a lot more) the more buggy games you'll likely see. Whether a game has bugs though doesn't remove the fact that it's a great game. Fallout 3 and New Vegas for example were both quite buggy on release, and still are but they are still very good games with Fallout 3 being one of my all time favourite games (ooh another example of a subjective viewpoint!) despite all its bugs.

I'd probably say the state of gaming and PC gaming is the best it's ever been and a lot of the people who reminisce about the "good old golden age of gaming *date*" are just being nostalgic, often forgetting all the negative aspects of games they loved as kids and exaggerating the positive sides.

Of course, some games were and still are great, like Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus, which were released in 1997 and 1998 yet are still great games today despite the low res graphics compared to today's high res screens. I actually enjoy them more now than I did back in 1997 when I first played and completed them. I'm going off on a bit of a tangent now though.

Things are going very good for PC games, just look at Steam and at how popular it is. It's been a big help to PC gaming, Steam itself is almost like a platform in the way a PS3 or 360 is considered a platform. I also think a lot of people need to calm down over multi platform games and learn what "console port" actually means. It's not a derogatory word the way people seem to use it, and there's nothing actually wrong with console ports either, what people actually dislike are bad console ports where literally no care has been put in to it, all they've done is ensure it just runs on the PC. That is very rare to find, I think the last occasion was Saint's Row 2, where it was a poor console port. People seem to think and act like games shouldn't be shared though, like PC (and PC gamers) have some sort of divine right to the best games and good PC games shouldn't be on consoles (look at people whinging over Crysis being ported to console, just because it's gonna be on consoles). The only cares people should have about ports is if the game works fine on their chosen platform and isn't hobbled by the lowest common denominator (for example all games looking like Wii games even though they're running on a high end PC).

Summarised; you're getting bored of games now and being overly nostalgic over games you played years ago.

The last few years has seen some uninspired games released plus some awful console ports. But there has also been some fantastic releases to balance it out.

I think the feel of PC gaming has changed but that's inevitable. Personally I'm enjoying PC gaming more now than I have for ages.

As for your thread, well there have been a lot of similar threads in this forum over the last year or so so don't be surprised at people gunning you down for posting it.
