Is there any RPGS in development?

And i dont mean a FPS-RPG hybrid....i mean a real party-based rpg. Where is the rpg now? Does every game have to be an fps to sell????

I think the last one was NWN2 and add-ons. Does no-one else do them??
 
I remember when zelda (a link to the past) games used to be rpg classed. Loved them games back in the day.

Also liked swords and serpents on the nes that was a really good rpg party based game.
 
I wish there'd be another game like the Baldurs Gate series. I don't want 3d graphics, I liked the perspective used by Baldurs Gate. It didn't need flashy graphics, just a strong storyline.

i have :D But i repeat its a console rpg. I'm talking about the heart and soul....PC RPGS.

Where have they gone?? Are they dead, extinct? *shock* :eek:

Has evolution decreed that there is no more place for them other than the low-tech indie rpgs you still get.


its like im at a party and all the good looking women have decided to leave for new pastures and all that are left are FPS elephant-women.

So when i lament to them arghh but you're an FPS!!! They say to me sweetly "noo i can put on the clothes of an RPG women and you wont know the difference"

YES BUT MY DEAR ITS WHATS UNDER THE CLOTHES THAT COUNTS!


We are all witnesses...... mark this Age well.... we all watched and did nothing!

And yes There is still The Witcher.....but one against soo many? It fights against an increasing tide...

But graphics card busting GFX is what being a PC gamer is all about!!1!!1! That's why we all love FPS's... Or not.

I can't see another epic Baldurs Gate style RPG coming our way again unfortunately. Even NWN 2 failed by only having a four strong party and being dumbed down to the point where even Homer Simpson would have been insulted.

Gaming is going mass market, and the hardcore geeks are not only an embarrassment, but also overly demanding. Flashy superficial games are the future.
 
Sacred is something i think you will like. You can get a part i think going and its a rpg system with overhead view. Has multiplayer if you so wished to use.

Dungeon seige and neverwinter night games are kinda good. Not sure if they had partys tho, but i think they did as its been ages since i played em.

I thought Sacred was a diablo-wannabe?
Dungeon Siege 2 is monotonous slug slush :( The first Dungeon Siege was better - (even though DS2 apparently has a better plot, more options etc)

What im looking for is the successor to Baldurs Gate 2. A good strong story and a diverse party.

Why doesnt a developer get a licence to develop an RPG for Eddings or Terry Brooks or David Gemmell novels? A lot of them are about party-based travel/survival on epic quests! Yes ive played the Shannara adventure game (wasnt *that* bad)

I'd love to see a game like Ultima VII/Baldurs Gate 2 updated to today's technology.

i don't really like rpg that are in third person any more, don't mind them as long as storeys good though, and am hoping fo3 is going to be good where shots are bassed on roles not your aim.

While Dungeon Siege was essentially completely linear I did enjoy the large eight character party (or 7 and a donkey :D) which resulted in some satisfying mayhem. The seamless loading system was pretty cool for its day too.

Sadly the sequel didn't live up to my admittedly rather low expectations.

this game was such a let down, i played it for a while when i first got it then one day stopped playing, and i just never felt like playing it again, not one bit of me wanting to play it.

i'm downloading baldur's gate II :P it was out when i didn't have a PC, my mate had it and i played it for a bit, (while ago now) so its gonna be all new for me :)
 
surely the problem here is that rpg is coming very demanding, not graphically but gameplay like what can be done, how the person moves, ai etc, and if an old rpg was bought out now it wouldn't be classed as an rpg, like if a company made a new kotor 3, if it did everything kotor one did gameplay wise but with a good story, imo it wouldn't do too well as gameplay is just as important as story, otherwise might aswell just be watching a movie.

dioubt that made any sense but we will see
