What have I done?!

You don't want greenstuffs, they have a bad rep on e36coupe.com, try Performance Friction pads. I found them great on the 328i manual and would have got them again for the 318iS but they are ~£70 for the fronts and I won't be driving this one all that hard, plus it doesn't need brilliant stopping power. Although if I do track days, I'll change to PF pads.

I'm not sure either, but the iS doesn't really need an upgrade, as standard it has the same brakes as the 325i and the 328i which stop them well and they have more power. I'm happy to stick with these for now, only upgrades I'd do would be pads to fast road ones if I really felt the need...but I don't. :)

I don't know if you've ever driven a car with actually decent brakes, but I found the brakes of my 325i and my 330d to be, well, crap.

Also, regarding pads, redstuff were the best I tried on the 325i (granted I only had mingetex and whatever were on the car originally to compare it to), yellow stuff aren't really the right compound for the weight of the car.

Puzzles me a bit too - I always found the brakes excellent on my humble old 318i.....

That said, they are truly awful if you want to press on with the 328i Auto - how I wish I had a manual at times..... - Mine could certainly do with an upgrade - green stuff pads perhaps? no engine braking & heavy right foot is not good and its embarrasing pulling up with a burning smell coming from your brakes!:o:D
Similar story on the 156, same brakes from the 1.8 right up to the 2.5, it was always praised for it's brakes but I don't think the journos ever tested the V6, I've not managed to cook them yet mind, but mine isn't the auto.

It's not embarrassing, just means you've been driving a BMW the way it was intended :p ...might be a bit eyebrow raising if you turned up at a stately home in a Rolls Royce with your brakes cooking though, but then I guess you would be far too wealthy to care anyway :p

You lot will be happy to hear my ear is totally sorted...

...hardly noticeable and minimal scaring. 8)

Anyway, this is about the car not my ear.

It's about the car which has had it's first wash in my ownership today!

Lip spoiler is so much better than the wing!

The car really needs to be lowered and to have some decent alloys as currently it's far too high and the alloys and tyres look rubbish. Can't do anything about them for a few months though and they do the job as they currently are. :)

I could also do with a new/respray bonnet because at some stage in it's life someone took offence to it...

...it's not noticeable in normal sunlight but under artificial light it shows up. Also generally needs dings and such fixing...and certainly needs the rear arches to be fixed...tempted to have a go at that myself once I've got access to the garage again.

The list of parts I want keeps growing to be honest, quite a few cosmetic things I want to change, like the front slats in the lower skirt for M3 mesh, Evo lip on the edge of the skirt too, all money I don't need to spend so it'll be staying as it is for now...plus mechanicals are more important. :)

Lip spoiler needs to go, you can tell its a cheap Ebay job, you can even see the double sided tape holding it on :p

No, it needs to stay. I even cleaned the algae that was holding it on out from under it. :o :D

You've just rubbed it here and there with a sponge havent you

I want my calipers doing in that silver, from what i've read you just bought them like that so wouldnt know what paint was used?

I assume you mean his ear?

The car doesn't even look that "cleaned" to me

Certainly needs the black bits making black, and the silver bits making shiny!

No i mean as in no visible rot and no bits hanging off and missing.

Also sometimes you just need to give a man a gee up when hes lost half an ear in the line of duty :)

It's not covered in flies and poo, that as far as I'm concerned, is clean. The car is by no means of a show standard (loads of small scratches and not great paintwork in general), so why would I put loads of effort into cleaning it to a high standard. Plus, unlike some on here, I get extremely bored of cleaning a car.

Nope, I actually scrubbed it here and there with a wash mit thingy...some of the bugs and mud were stuck fast! :p

I did indeed buy them like that so don't know what the paint is unfortunately. I'd guess some form of generic high temp silver though.

I've managed to (unintentionally) not take pictures of the rear arch rust, although it's not too bad, it's certainly not good and I really should fix it before winter properly sets in else rubbish weather will see them rotting properly.

Also sometimes you just need to give a man a gee up when hes lost half an ear in the line of duty :)

Hahaha, brilliant. It's all good, I don't mind people criticising myself or my car, if they don't like me/it/what I've done, that's their problem, not mine. I'm happy so it's fine. :)

I am under no delusion about the state of the car, it's not brilliant but it's certainly not very bad. The 328i was bad with major rot on both arches as well as all rubber perished and bump strips scraped and very grey.

Anyway...

That lot, plus the bonnet (which is not visible under normal light) are the real bodywork issues, there are small stone chips, dings and scratches as well, but they are all small and haven't been done in my ownership.
