What have you done to your car today?

Hmm sure I read it was a bit heavier than that!

Either way, E46 is around 1550KG. A quick google shows the engine weight is 202KG vs the E46's 217KG  - Perhaps that's where I got confused.

The E46 is heavier than I thought. People say E92 is heavy but it's a much bigger car.

With polished push-through centre caps and chrome wheel nuts. And tyre lube. Needs a wash.

Yeah only replaced the one that was flickering, which would be the drivers side, then a few months later, the passenger side, then the drivers side again etc etc. Like I said, I've replaced four xenon bulbs so far IIRC. Since it is a very intermittent problem, unless I'm going to pay £200 for a pair of new ballasts, then £60 for a pair of new bulbs - then wait a year to see if it has in fact fixed it, then I'm almost better off just getting free replacements from Amazon every 12 months or so.

I know that the passenger one was replaced in Apr 2016 and that one seems to be absolutely fine for now, so we'll wait and see. If it does start flickering, I'll put on of the Mini ballasts on it to see if that fixes it.

So 4 months has elapsed since I replaced the driver's side bulb - and it's started flickering again

It's been noticeably dimmer than the passenger side one for a while so it was expected. Even changing the ballast hasn't stopped it flickering so either the bulb has been damaged by the previous ballast, orrrr the bulb was crap. Either way, I'm buying a Philips D2S bulb now. Every bulb i've ever had from Osram has always been inferior to the Philips equivalent.

Well, sold the Passat today.

Eventually after finishing the service and getting the new shocks on, I took it for a decent run last night. After about 150 miles one of the undertrays came loose and was scraping off the deck whenever I went over 30. Nursed it to my old mans since it was reasonably close, only to find I got a puncture about 100 yards before his drive. Took the locking wheel nut key out, only for it to break as soon as any pressure was applied. So called the recovery I have with my bank. They sent out a guy who ripped off the undertray (properly ripped it off), and popped off all the locking wheel nuts.

Got home about 2-3 hours after I should have. Put it up for sale, and sold it to the first viewer for £50 less than I was asking. So can't be bad.

Sure, it was a bit of a "huffy" thing to do. But I had already spent about what I thought it was worth, and was looking to have to spend another £110 or so to keep it. So decided to get rid. Made about £12 profit on my ownership, lol.

Anyway, so I need to replace it. So I'm thinking either a 458, or maybe a Clio 172.

Quick attempt to adjust ride height on the right rear corner, which seems a bit high - gave up as the coilover locking collar is a bit stuck :(. Soaked it in WD40 and plusgas and will try again tomorrow if the weather is good.

Also had a good fiddle to work out the best possible routing for boost gauge wiring ;)

Decided you want to give outright power a try over the noise of ITBs?

Someone wants to buy the ITB's off me, so yeh :)

I drove a supercharged one with 290bhp last year (the Blink demo car) and it was awesome, its the extra torque that impressed more than anything. I'd get more mid range than their car too, as its on stock cams where as mine have more lift.

Beforehand I want a new radiator (the one on the car is over 9 years old, looking a bit tired, with plastic end tanks, an upgrade to an all alu Koyo one with 32mm core will help with longer term reliability and temperatures) and running wiring for a boost gauge is an easy enough project to keep me occupied since I like to tinker myself :D. Will look very OEM when done, naturally the gauge won't be going in until I actually have boost but running the wiring neatly is no issue.

Managed to repair a huge windscreen stone chip directly in the drivers view with a £4 kit off eBay. I can't even see where it was now :D

I know it's free via insurance (or a small fee by mine...) but I managed to do one chip on mine and a chip on my dads windscreen.

Fitted a new double din stereo into the MX5, replaced the failed driver-side speaker, polished the yellowness off the headlights and then replaced the battery.

Nice to have a car I can get involved in again!

Replaced the vinyl sticker on the boot badge. I got the whole badge new start of last year and it's faded? It was a genuine part direct from BMW, so completely reasonable to expect it to not fade for many years at the very least.

The vinyl replacement was bought from a seller in the USA, let's see if this lasts longer (I bet it does).

BMW parts have a 2 year warranty. Why didn't you just get a replacement?

Didn't even think about it as it just stuck in mind as "just a badge" so thought nothing more of it really. But for £6 for the vinyl bit only, if it lasts longer than the bmw one, then all's fair I guess. BMW won't replace the vinyl only, they would swap the whole badge, and getting the badge off, aligning the new one back on and everything is extra faff.

Popped in a new 2017 sat nav map DVD, now that Ford have decided to offer the TMC functionality to their customers again!

Fixed the other side of the intercooler boost leak. Coupler was only a little bit out of the joint but made a massive difference to boost. Noticed it by somewhat lack of shove and whitish smoke. Hate the vw design of hoses.

I wonder if that stuff will fill in a scratch on a side window :/

Started the valve cover gasket replacement job. Done the nearside so far including new o-ring seals on the valve cover nuts and 4 spark plugs. Then found that I don't have a 1/2" to 3/8" adaptor so my torque wrench won't fit the 10mm spark plug. Thought that would do for today.

All that hardware just holds the plenum onto the throttle bodies. 66 nuts or screws...

No idea why I tackled the harder side first as the wiring loom is in the way, as are the oil filter and some air con piping. Many cuts later...
