What have you done to your car today?

Had the seat belts changed black to yellow

£150 for all four fitted, bargain!

Perhaps you could do something with an RF modulator and composite or component in from something like a Raspberry Pi? Modulators can be had for £30 or so.

You could even use something like NavIT on the Pi (or use OpenAuto like I have) to display navigation or Android Auto to the in car display!

You'd have to get creative with input, perhaps my modding a keyboard to have custom dashmount buttons or use the GPIO pins for control input (I looked into repurposing an Audi MMI controller for this, it's not too hard), or if you get lucky you might find a USB resistive touch overlay in the size of the built in display.

Sounds a bit too complicated for me, but I appreciate the input! :) I would only have wanted to play youtube videos to it and stuff, more as a gimmick than anything else.

It sounds complicated, but I'm sure you could work it out, it's not really that complicated, just takes a bit of thinking through.

However I'm still sure you could do something simple with an RF modulator. Don't forget most of the Android Auto input can be done with "OK Google"

With an RF modulator I get part of the way there, but then I still need to be able to somehow convert bluetooth video to composite video in. :p

Wait no the converter things still need plugging into the TV with a coax... :(

After 6 years, finally got around to upgrading the head unit. I nearly did this a coupe of years ago, I was looking at one of the Chinese Android units - but I wasn't keen on their speed and UI. I preferred the offerings from the likes of the more established headunit makers, but they were every expensive. A combination of that, and the fact that I stopped driving the car daily mean't that spending big money on one wasn't. However, a second hand Pioneer AVH-X5800DAB came up for sale on the owner's club forum earlier this week, so I nabbed it.

Looks and responds much better than the stock unit, has better functionality (DAB and Spotify built in which connects to the phone), connects faster and (so far) it also seems to have improved on the sound quality. I could barely hear the first few minute or so of Hey Now by London Grammar before....it seems the speakers just didn't have the bass response. Sounds much better with this unit (although to be fair, I've not driven the car yet).

I've got a DAB aerial arriving, hopefully tomorrow, so I need to take it apart and fit that, but so far, very pleased.

I actually didn't mind the updated OEM unit in the loan car I had last week. If I can find a used one I might install that :D

New race spec rocker cover came back from welding with AN10 fittings, sprayed it. Just waiting for my RW Developments catch can and lines to turn up.

Didn't think about updating the clock in the meantime? LOLOLOLOLOL

Out of curiosity, has anyone here imported a LHD car and completely overhauled it?

I have been wanting a particular vehicle which was never manufactured here but the newer models now are and the car can be serviced here if needed. Since the model I want is about 12 years old now the best examples I can find online are about 120,000 kms. I'm just wondering if this is a mammoth, crazy undertaking. Ive found one that is in mint condition in Dubai for 5k. Bringing it over with shipping and making it UK legal will be another 4k. That's 9k for a 60k car but 12 years old with some 70,000 miles on the clock. It's a 3.5 litre V6 and a bit of a gas guzzler with about 21MPG. Assuming it is in mint condition, and nothing needs to be replaced or repaired, am I still being crazy to consider this? I want the car soooo much and literally find myself googling for it every month or so.

If you want it that badly, don't think that will change, and you can afford it, do it.

What car is it?

It's this.

Don't know if "it will change" if i brought it here. I used to have one when I lived in Dubai and loved it to bits butttt....We are talking about a 12 year old car, LHD, low MPG, service parts have to come from Infiniti Europe, probably high tax every year, high insurance cost being an import and all of this assumes there's nothing that needs to be fixed. What if the transmission goes soon or it needs an engine replacement. I've been looking for a "mint condition" one for years and now that I've found one I'm itching to pull the trigger. Part of me thinks if i do it maybe i should just get it taken to a dealership there and have them change out everything with new parts so when it comes over here at least I'll have peace of mind but given all of the above, am i just romanticising this and should it be left as a pipe dream?

Apparently catalytic converters were stolen off cars in my gym car park. That could have saved me some cash! They'll be disappointed if they go to the trouble of getting under my car.

On that note, I got stuck in traffic under a bridge yesterday :D (still makes me giggle like a child)

Just seen a Ribble Valley Police post on Facebook about catalytic converters being stolen locally, mainly from Hondas. Seems like it must be the got commodity of the moment. Always posts telling people to lock their cars too. It seems thieves are becoming more and more brazen, or we just more informed now.

Back int day we didn't even lock the house never mind the car :D

I was shocked at how many people who live near me don't lock their cars - equally how many houses now have cameras and how many people are out at 4am trying car door handles.
