What have you done to your car today?

Turns out the reason my E30's one hasn't rusted through is because it is made of aluminium. Maybe everyone should make them out of aluminium, if BMW were smart enough to do it in the 80's. :p
It's nothing to do with being smart, it's the usual compromises and trade offs in the world of design, costs, and manufacturing techniques.

Ding ding we have a winner! That’s exactly what it is.

I’d like it to last 6-8 years which I’d estimate the time we will own the car for.

Hah, just seen what engine you posted an image of earlier :D

Like you say, it catches all the dirt and gets a hammering off the road over time. Done a few Kia's with steel sumps too that have rotten through. It's far from uncommon that's for sure.

A fair few other cars have steel sumps but they are preserved by the undertrays.

Started my projector and DRL conversion.

I need to make some modifications to the main beam projector housing, and dechrome and paint the bowls. Should look alright when it's all done.

Just done oil and filter change after 3,000 miles, 2nd proper oil change after rebuilding and running in the engine. Have to take off bumper as oil filter & cooler is relocated behind the fog light. Only 4 bolts and 6 fasteners so could be a lot worse. I could do it with my eyes closed now. :D

Really struggling to get heat into the car this time of year as the cooling system is too efficient even with a oil cooler thermostat switch. Tried to give it a good thrashing but it's difficult as your in ban speeds in about 3 seconds

It's a bit too much for the road at full boost (1.5 bar) tbh. Once I turn it down to 1 bar it's slightly more sensible for the road but still pretty mental.

Took the E30 for its MOT, passed, couple of small issues which I sorted with the tester before the end of the test, a numberplate light was out, so we replaced it, the headlights were too low and the adjusters were stuck (normal...) so we adjusted them with spacers which worked perfectly, and I forgot to clamp the battery down, so we did that quickly.

No advisories. :)

Changed the spark plugs to copper ngk's. Its a proper pain in the backside getting to the back 3 thanks to being under the plenum/throttle body and an array of vacuum hoses!
also had the intent of installing an areomotive FPR but the fitting is wrong for the fuel rail so thats gonna have to wait until i can find the correct one and gives me better chance to figure out where to mount it and might just order some bigger injectors/maft while im at it :D

On a side note i bought an electronic wrench, these things are a god send!!, just a cheapo ebay special but still made light work of the copious amounts of bolts.

Washed my Fiesta, I don't really like doing it this time of the year though, so I normally just give it a quick wash, knowing it will get dirty again after a few days.

I used the Bilt Hamber Auto Wheels for my alloys that was recommended on here, brilliant stuff. I only used a hose to wash off the cleaner and they come up very clean, although I think a jet washer would be better to use.

Why bother driving for a minute to go to the gym? That's possibly one of the most retarded things I've heard on here!

I was thinking the same. If it's ~0.5 miles away, why you wouldn't just walk is beyond me. That's barely 10 minutes on foot.

Assuming an average speed of 60mph, which is highly unlikely, it's no more than a mile. The average UK male walks that in less than 15 mins. A fit gym user should comfortably manage that and it would be a reasonable warm up.
