What have you done to your car today?

This was fun

Luckily I have bits chopped out an old surf

Not pretty but strong and sits all behind the windscreen rubber

Was just driving along and had the tyre pressure warning come up on my dash, great. Checked it out and it was down from 33psi to 27psi and then I saw a nail sticking out of it. Must've been there at least 3 weeks because when I checked the pressures on all the cars back then, that same tyre was down 2 or 3 psi and I didn't think anything of it. Quite lucky as I've done about 3000 miles in that time :)

Since it's a pirelli with 5-6mm of tread left I think I'll be getting this one repaired. Conveniently I need to get a tyre put on my spare wheel as well so will get that all done in one go.

Spun the car under braking at around 110mph. Nice excuse for stickier rubber I guess!

Man that outer shoulder is torn up, seems like you have setup issues.

Speaking of which, today I picked up new goodies.

Geomaster 2 rear drop knuckles.

Essentially my rear end setup is total jank because the car is lowered quite a lot. You can see my issues here..

The knuckles give a 50mm drop so will basically bring the roll centre, camber and toe curves back to factory. Supposedly this gives a dramatic improvement in exit traction which is diabolically poor right now.

I kinda broke the roof on the wifes car. Put it back up manually. Got her 4 new tyres fitted (that I bought over a month ago). Came home. Reset the roof.
Fixed :D

Just spotted a mate of mine has bought a project car...
I really really really really really really really hope he starts AND FINISHES it because it will be EPIC if he does.
Sadly I feel it will just sit there and sit there until it is a mere pile of iron oxide that needs sweeping into the bin. :(
Will be such a waste.

For the guys asking about my respray, I've had everything but the roof done now, he did the back bumper due to the "inconvenience" when I rejected it the first time around.

When I went in for my quote he was insistent that £1200 would involve windows out, sideskirts off etc and down to bare metal which would be needed to rid it of microblisters. In reality he's done none of that, which I can live with if the blisters weren't there and it was a decent job because it was a mess before.

But the front wings, bonnet etc are OK this time on the microblisters score, it's the doors and rear 1/4's where they are faintly coming through and it's so badly finished/polished I am fuming with how it looks in the sun. I am too embarassed to post a pic.

I did offer him to give me 700 back and I will go away and get it done elsewhere or just fix it properly, to which he says he will do...

Stern words were exchanged and his rep will depend on it so he needs to paint it well and then get someone who can actually machine polish a car in to sort that bit out IMO. But like Fox says I can't expect too much for £1200. I just wanted what we agreed on and to pick my car up looking far better than it was. But it looks no different currently, well it's not too bad in the shade!

At least the wheels are good for the £1200 spent :)

Can you elaborate more on this with photos preferably? From this post the paint looks pristine.

What has led to the imperfections you're seeing? I know people have said you need a very clean environment and professional tools to do a proper respray which makes me wary of ever getting one.

Beginning to wonder how much more life my gearbox has left in it. It has been whining in 5th gear for a long while now, and very slightly in 4th. A tell-tale sign it is on its way home. I have driven about 20,000 miles since it started to whine, and the whine is a lot more noticeable now. I just have to touch the throttle in 5th and you can hear it over the engine. It is on 140,000 miles now. As long as I can get 160,000 out of it and sell it without the prospective buyer knowing what the noise is, then I don't mind too much. Its not like it will be worth anything with 160,000 on it anyway so even if it does die on me I suppose it isn't the end of the world.

Oh Acme, i thought i knew you better than that...

Better than what? Not nipping the problem in the bud so it didn't get worse? Mentioning car issues in this thread? Not getting rid of it? Thinking the buyer wont know what the noise is? Thinking anyone will want to buy it in the first place?? :p

Have I accidentally said something stupid again? :D

Bit of a flurry of work.

The tailgate striker plates are all wobbly and loose and you have to make sure they are lined up before you shut the tailgate.

Took them off cleaned them up and welded the back up.

Tailgate now closes lovely rather than sounding like the glass is about to end up on the floor.

Oh and cleaned out the mini garage
