What have you done to your car today?

Broke the oil filler pipe in half on the Porsche - glued it back together today. Will check tomorrow how well the sealant worked. It's one of those things that breaks quite a bit because of the heat from the engine and the age of the car etc. Most last a few years before snapping - this was 19 years maybe. Potentially a £400 bill to replace so used sealant as it is more flexible and potentially a better fix. Also toying with the idea of an exhaust repair sleeve from Halfords with sealant underneath as a more permanent fix which is a real idea as it would be held with hose clips which would fit with them being used on the throttle body etc.

Has this car ever worked properly?!

It would have been ok but I changed something which caused the issue lol.
In all fairness the car is fine - just little things with it but being a Porsche slightly more finicky and difficult to get reliable advice on.

Had a right time of changing the rear discs, pads and handbrake shoes on my E46 330i. Stripped down one side, stripped most of the other side and then found I had the wrong shoes. *Expletive*

That was Wednesday, so all good now after ordering and fitting the correct ones. Flew through MOT yesterday with a functioning handbrake, with compliments given by the tester on the general shape of the car, which was nice.

Serviced the old dears car today. Just the usual oil and filters. Been a while since I serviced my own cars due to being too new. Quite enjoyed that.

New Flowmaster 40 Series Delta Flow silencers and tips installed this week:

And here's a clip of the engine being started from cold:

It's a bit louder than the last one. Fortunately not too much inside; the Delta Flow design seems to help here.

I measured it with a sound meter at around 90db at idle from around 50cm away from the exhaust.

Replaced the old mechanical fan (driven through a heat-sensitive clutch through the water pump) with a Spal electric one, wiring it up to a heat-sensing fan controller. Whilst there, I replaced the two main vacuum/oil return lines on the front of the engine and gave the inside of the plenum a clean.

Also rewired the reversing camera properly, using a relay to switch with the reversing light.

Finally, I wrapped the outer lips of the kidney grilles gloss black (not keen on the chrome as it's the only bit on the car), leaving the grilles themselves in black with silver fronting. Undecided at the moment, but with the facelift lights I think it lifts the front end a little.

Went to sainsburys to inflate tyres for free but it was temperamental so ended up going tesco and paying 50p, at least it worked!

Gave the leather a full clean and treatment.

For a car that's supposedly showroom prepped my cloths were filthy!

lol welcome to AUC. You're paying for the warranty, consider anything else a bonus

Last one was pristine inside so I can't knock Stratstone Harrogate. This one - looked clean but bleurgh!
However the steering wheel now feels fantastic. Hopefully tackle the outside next weekend. Wheels are spotless but guessing that's because they've all just been refurbed.

Gave it a clean. Now that it is all protected and I have a set routine, it only takes about an hour! Open ended hose FTW.

Just need to get another replacement alloy...

So I fixed/bodged the oil filler pipe and sealed the crankcase pressure. Took it out for a drive to see how it's running and had to stop a few times to check things but that meant putting into park etc which is always a problem with gear selection as it means turning the car off for the button to work (est £450 cost from Porsche).

*hopefully* it has cured the idle and cured the gear selection problem. As well as the initial problem of snapping the pipe.

Every cloud - if I hadn't broken this bit I wouldn't have attempted a fix and never found the other cures.

All *hopefully* as time will tell.

Removed the CCV valve and all associated pipes on my 325ti today, replaced with a pcv valve and catch tank setup. Seems to be a popular mod in the USA for combating excessive oil consumption on the m54 engine. There is a noticeably higher vacuum in the crank case (oil cap is hard to remove when engine is running) and apparently this helps seal the oil control rings on these engines. Time will tell if this helps!
