What have you named your rigs?

My PC is called Borkatronicus, although my optical and data drives have recently died leaving me unable to watch DVDs or listen to music so a rethink may be in order.

I assume your talking about the computers name in windows. In which case its Alec-Desktop-1

Owner-Type-Number, so Fran-Laptop-1 would be my mums laptop etc etc.

Quite sad and anal but never mind.

My main network is like this:
Desktop: Enterprise
Laptop: Voyager
XBMC: Defiant
Mac G4 box: Stargazer
PS3: Excalibur
360: Intrepid
Server/ Routers: Unimatrix-001 Unimatrix-002 & Unimatrix-003

Cheers

At my old work place, the computers were based around Star Trek. Different workgroups were like The Federation, Klingon Empire, Cardassian Space. Print servers were named after planets. Print server for Federation was Earth. For the Romulan Empire was Romulus. Normal workstations were named after ships. Enterprise, Voyager, Bird of Prey etc.

It made me giggle :p

I hate it when companies do this. When we get called in to do some IT diagnostics and fix people's networks having non-descript names is a nightmare finding their exchange server, etc.

Much easier having NAME-EX01, NAME-TS01, etc as it shows what the machine does at least!

Had a sort out at the end of last year and now my machines are named after characters from the David Eddings books ... currently there are:

Belgarath (Server)
Belgarion (Main PC)
Polgara (HTPC)
Barak (Laptop)
Hetter (Virtual Machine)
Cnedra (HTPC)
Anheg (Mac Mini)
Durnik (Laptop)
Silk (Linux PC)

The systems which live at my parents are slightly more random:

Yomama (as in Yo Mama's so ...)
Darkstar (old default Slackware hostname)
Fooey (Hong Kong Fooey)
Inspiron (descriptive name)

:)

edit: devices on the network tend to be more descriptive, e.g. wifiap, internet (for the router), hplaser ... )
