what headphones do you own thread - i own dt150's :)

I bought the HD598 and AD700 purely for gaming with the intention of keeping the best and selling the other. I kept the AD700 and sold the HD598. The Sennheiser was a better all-rounder for use with music, games and movies, but for just competitive gaming the AD700 was better for giving you that 360 degree awareness that makes people think you are hacking.

If you are after a bit of immersion though and not just a sterile sound for tactical awareness I'd say the sennheisers are better.

I have been reading something posted in here "Quest for Holy Grail of gaming sound" and he recommended the AD700 second after the DT880.

Although I could afford those DT880 for the amount of gaming I do it's not a worthy purchase so been looking at those AD700s now. They look great and get favourable reviews every where.

Currently I am using a Creative X FI Xtreme music and feel I should probably upgrade this also, looking at the Xonar cards but unsure on which to go for. The DS?

I am undecided on new headphones for gaming.
Looking through thread the HD555s and 595s also look great. The 595s need an amp though to get the most out of them? Would the FiiO e5 thing be enough?

I listen to my minidisc (MZ-RH710) directly through the HD595s with only the builtin digital amp, and that is with only a single AA battery. The volume is fine and I find the bass volume and depth perfect even without a dedicated amplifier. I have also on occasion used them with my NAD integrated amplified (302) and my iBasso D3 Python portable headphone amp and they sound great !

About to purchase these :

Well I went with the AD700s in the end they look great got good reviews and seem to come highly recommended. Now I need to consider changing this old x fi extreme music to something a bit newer.

Any ideas? Not the STX thats for sure £130 for a sound card is a bit much for me! I already have an FiiO E5 amp here if that is of any help.

Shure SRH840.

Also got Sennheiser HD555 with the mod (sticky tape removal) but they are pretty old now and literally falling apart. Contemplating keeping them at work although I doubt my laptop soundcard can do them justice!

My 14yr old brother asked me to buy him some headphones like my HD595 for his birthday since he's got some generic brand that he uses for gaming and stuff on his computer. I said no because IMO they're a bit too hardcore and he should start off with a classic and work his way up.

So I bought him a new pair of Koss Porta Pro headphones. They were the first headphones I bought and the sound was sublime from them so they'll easily do him just fine.

I think it's a superb start for headphone ownership and everyone should own these headphones at one point. there's a reason they're still being sold 27 YEARS on with lifetime warranty!

If you're looking to upgrade your generic phones then definitely check these out, you WILL be surprised at how good they are :)

Translation = Didn't want to fork out.

You're partly right, but mainly because he's 14 and I've seen how "well" he looks after things. I have a youtube video of him smashing his keyboard because he lost in an online game for one, so I won't buy him anything of considerable value until he's grown up a bit.

No teenager deserves something of value until they learn to value their own possessions!

That doesn't mean the Porta Pro are cheap sounding, they most certainly are not!

Edit*
I don't think you've even listened to the Porta Pro? So your post is quite irrelevant if so :p

Fair doos I remember looking after all my stuff since I was born. I didn't get much so what I did get I appreciated. I broke an n64 once by polishing it. My brothers laptop is disgusting doesn't clean it, he's 14.

Them headphones look like outside portable ones though.

He's got a Nokia music phone so will be used indoors and out :)

I have a feeling the lifetime warranty is going to see some use though, lol.
