what headphones do you own thread - i own dt150's :)

Probably a crime but I've swapped out my HD650s for Fidelio X2HRs and find them so much more enjoyable.

Trying to resist picking up some Sundaras to try next.
I tried those Fidelio's but the clamping force and weight of them coming from Beyerdynamic's was too much for me.
I'm also trying resist picking up some Sundaras but want to sample some planar goodness..

Sold my Schiit stack last year as I wanted something with XLR outputs (suffering a bit of ground loop interference) and settled on a Topping A30/D30 Pro combo. I've wanted to try some Senn HD650s for absolutely ages and decided now was the time. Obviously the 650 are fairly old now and have seen a couple of revisions, so after lots and lots of googling I went for.... maybe rather unsurprisingly, some HD660 S2s!

Upgrade cycles over the past 20+ years:

Headphones: £30 Sony headphones from HMV > Grado SR80s > AKG K550 > Beyerdynamic Amiron Home > and now Denon AH-D9200.

Dacs: Sound card > HRT DAC > M-DAC > Mojo > RME ADI-2.

Amps: Little Dot mkiii until it had a humming issue - really enjoyed the tube rolling and it was probably just bass heavy but voice and bass sounded really good at times. M-PWR used for current £200 Dali speakers. Acoustic Energy AE1 Active ordered.

I live in a flat so I focus on DAC/headphone budget. Just burning in Denon's, so far so good. Need to calm it on the spending as already had the new PC this year :)

Future might be R2R DAC, LCD headphones, not currently reached my end game yet argh :)

ADI-2 is endgame in the DAC realm. It doesn't have the best power output in the world, so certainly look for more powerful amps...

Add R2R for sure, but not as a replacement - an alternative.

Looking at getting some headphones.

Daughter has the Sony MX4. Amazing quality.

Been looking at the Anker Q45......

Would be used for music, films, youtube. Usual stuff really..

Any advice...

It turns out the Denon AH-D9200 headphones are really easy to drive so play nice on most amps. First world problems, but I was hoping to upgrade further to get even better sound out of them. The ADI-2 can EQ which I've been playing with as well, that's going to take a while. Each upgrade I've done in the past is usually a noticeable improvement in some way and so are the new Denon headphones, but I couldn't really put in words how!

There is no shortage of stuff to upgrade to, just depends how much argh :) Apparently, transformer coupled amps might be the way to go with the Denon's but it sounds like it would be cheaper to just get a different pair of headphones lol

I'll do some research but might leave things a couple of years and just enjoy this new setup.

I'm out the loop with wireless noise canceling headphones but both of those get great reviews, also just seen these https://www.whathifi.com/reviews/sony-wh-ch720n plus black Friday deals to be had right now.

In reality even the ADI-2 is past the performance to cost ratio. Technically speaking you can buy better measuring dacs for less money...depends how much stock you put into ASR measurements though. And in reality most of those measurements are not even audible. So something ranked #1 wont sound any different to something ranked 50th. Money is best spent on better cans if you were to spend more. Then again the 9200 could easily be considered endgame too! It's a funny old game :D

Focal Bathy is the best Bluetooth gets atm

I think those Sony sound very thin personally. Those Q45 get good reviews and for the price... no brainer.

New setup up for me,

Totally blown me away with these Violectric amps, they just munch through high ohm headphones, they sound so lush yet punchy, the bass is so dense and palpable but still clean, turns the DT1990Pro's into another headphone, the Qutest also pushes ton of space and depth into the mix.

New headphone added to collection: DT1990Pro

Very nice setup, the warmth of the Violectric balances out the highly detailed sound of the Chord, leaving a perfect mix. As for the DT1990, I love mine and wouldn't be without them.

Why sell the Maxwell’s? What’s wrong with them?
I'm just not going to use them - I really just don't like closed back headphones it seems. Having used the Tygr, Hd560 and now Hd660s2 with fps games, I just can't go back to the less spacious sound of the Maxwell. Plus, no matter how much I eq them, I can't get them how I want to sound for gaming.

I'd love to keep them as an all round headphone (as for music listening the sound profile doesn't bother me as much) but they are too bulky to be useful as a portable headphone imo so I just don't think I'll get enough use out of them.

I’m in Cornwall, sell them to me!

Though I haven’t tried them, just the reviews seem good other than very fragile

lol - I'm spending the weekend making absolutely sure they aren't for me haha. I don't think they are particularly fragile - same with the Penrose before. But then I'm not in the habit of throwing my stuff around like some gamers ;)

Mine are the Ultra Violet ones so I may just keep them to look at
