what headphones do you own thread - i own dt150's :)

What do you think about the UM merlins? I'm very tempted to get some...

I love them. Once I got them I sold my all my other IEMs and most of my portable headphones (except the ES10 and HD25).

I'd say it depends on what sort of sound signature you like though. As you'll notice from my collection I like a "fun" signature with plentiful sub-bass as opposed to sterile, clinical neutrality.

I like a bit of D&B, electronic, hip-hop and rock/indie. It is great for those genres.

Any members, got recommendations for in ear head phones?
My Ultimate Ear's 600vi have failed after 2+ years of use.

Ideally they need to be:
£40-80.
Android compatible (Mic/ Volume control).
In ear.

I have a pair ofhttp://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-091-CL

HD598 being delivered today. Not sure what to do with the HD595 now, maybe shelf prop :p

HD555's
Xonar D2X

Love these Senns, though wanting to upgrade any advice on new cans/soundcard and/or amp?

cheers

Naturally the STX, the headphone amp on it is excellent.

You've got to be kidding. When will people learn that headphones recreate the sound your hear. The difference better headphones will bring is far greater than any sound card upgrade. To spend £140 on a sound card for headphones that, one; don't need a headphone amp, and two; at one point cost £40 before Sennheiser's serious price bumping started. Don't get me wrong, they are very good headphones, but £140 is better spent on improving the headphone, not the sound card.

FYI I have owned the HD555 in the past (2 pairs over 5 years) and owned the D2x and the STX after and the headphone out of the STX improved the sound somewhat.

A used STX can be had around the £80 mark would improve sound in other areas too, not just the headphones. Looking at the bigger picture it makes sense to change that first.

Edit*
Also ordered the Philips Fidelio X1/00. Gonna keep whichever I like the sound of best.

I don't use any EQ in anything, Both Xonars in HiFi mode and were interconnected directly to the NAD amp. I do have sensitive hearing.

The cards you've just mentioned are different cards anyway, perhaps the difference is negligible on that hardware.

e: I accept everyone hears differently, what one person hears distinctively may not even register with someone else.

e2: Best advice? Ang should try them all out within his budget and decide based on what his ears have heard. Our country has a solid returns policy for retail consumers and for stuff like this it's great and it's exactly what I have done numerous times in an effort to compare and decide on what's best for my system.

Sony MDR XB300 cost me £30 couple of years ago, and for the price they are fantastic, great amount of bass, sound is clear and they're comfy, would definately upgrade to the 500, 700 or god forbid, the XB1000

These are going to be with me for a very long time! Philips have found themselves a new customer if future headphones stay like this.

Ah, Mr Kahn, we have the same taste.
I had the HD598 for 2 years and then loads of mid fi, dt 990, dt 880, mmx 300, aurvana live.

Got the x1 day before yesterday and this is probably the happiest ive been with a headphone. Spent all day listening to the music, rather than the headphones!

Regarding the cable, Is it much difference? I have some canare starquad and neutrik 3.5mm available to make a cable as the stock one is way too long.[

I have replied in the other thread mate, was confused there for a second, deja vu set in I thought :P

Currently using the Qpad QH-85 headset.

Sound quality for gaming is adequate.

They're very comfortable also, and well built.

Nowhere near the cost of some in here but my current preference is a Pair of UE4000's.

Ordered those, a set of G930s and a set of the Monoprice full size headphones.
Much preferred the sound from the UE4000's

HD595 just sold for £60 making the X1 an absolute steal at less than £100 :p

Hehe nice MRK, Sold my beyers for £165, so x1 freeeeeee! Sound a bit better with the 0.5ohm cable! thanks for that.
