New Planar on the market from Fosi Audio, £300 on Kickstarter. from review, it seems quite heavy, like 100g more than the Arya stealth.
I’m awaiting reviews of the new Fiio FT7. I am hoping they knocked it out the park like they did with the closed back Fiio FT1 which I love and own.

Don't think the FT7 swivels. Z Reviews just posted a Fosi Audio i5 planar review and liked it a lot.

That’s a no from me. I am not liking that bass drop off. I have both the Stealth and FT1 so am very happy. It’s a good start though and competition is always good.Another review out, this time he has done measurements. I wonder the reason for the lack of the lower frequencies is because of those massive massive ear pads placing the drivers further away from the ear, and the attaching method of velcro.
I just picked it against Arya stealth and Fiio FT1

Personally I wouldn't be that bothered about the sub-bass drop off. If the HD 650/6XX has taught me anything it's that I'm not bothered about bass. However I know that subjective. The Fosi Audio i5 looks like it could be a real killer even when it lands into normal retail channels at it's £400-500 price. Good to see Fiio & Fosi launching some really exciting headphones out there.
The issue for me is that it is chonky; 550grams! Again says more about me and I am very much a gamer first than an audiophile, but those sort of weights are always going to deter me from this sort of headphone as much as costs I think.
For what i listen to, the drop off in those frequencies is not important to me, in fact, I dislike them so this is to my preference. By happenstance though, the Xduoo XA-02 has a "bass boost" button, so it might be a match in heaven?
More likely just poor positioning during measuring - an air gap generally tends to increase bass in open backed planars as it increases the free movement of the diaphragm. A good example of this is the Abyss 1266 in which the ideal placement of the pads is slightly away from the ears creating maximum bass performance. The opposite is true with closed back planars though, they rely on having a sealed system otherwise bass response will be totally missing.

Meet the Luxsin X9, sister of the Eversolo DMP-A8 | Darko.Audio
Zidoo, parent of Eversolo, has introduced a new product under a new subbrand whose name combines 'Luxury' and 'Sine'. The Luxsin Audio X9 is a CNC-aluminium-wrapped DAC, headphone amplifier and pre-amplifier. On the back panel, we find balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA analogue outputs, unbalanced...darko.audio

And hats off to whoever designed the X9’s virtual VU meters — they are the closest to the real thing we’ve seen from Zidoo to date.
A Note on i5's Sound Tuning and Bass Response
Fosi AudioCreator
May 7, 2025
Dear Backers,
We've received a lot of thoughtful feedback regarding the i5's frequency response, particularly regarding sub-bass roll-off. We would like to share the thinking behind our tuning approach.
The tuning of i5 was inspired by the immersive auditory experience created by classic Stax estats. We focused on achieving a highly stylized sound signature with excellent stage presence, particularly suited for genres like jazz and live recording of pop music. This is the concept behind our design of the mid-to-high frequency tones for i5.
In the low-frequency range, we incorporated some concepts from modern mixing and mastering techniques for handling bass. The i5 offers a flat response down to 80Hz, but deliberately holds back in the sub-bass region below 80Hz. This conscious decision was to preserve clarity while avoiding auditory fatigue in prolonged listening.
Our large, deep, and replaceable earpads not only improved wearing comfort but also significantly optimized pinna-related transfer function, contributing to the i5's super spacious soundstage. However, this design also made the reproduction of sub-bass to require much more diaphragm excursion, which explains the bass roll-off seen in the measurements.
However, we've also experimented with modifications such as covering vent holes on the diaphragm and sealing the connection part on the earpads, which result in noticeably deeper bass extension. If sub-bass performance is a high priority for some users, we are open to exploring tuning adjustments in the final production run to better meet your preferences.
All of these elements together shape the i5's unique sound identity, one that dares to depart from mainstream, homogenized tuning styles. We sincerely invite you to experience it for yourself, and just as sincerely, we welcome your criticisms and suggestions.
Thank you for your ongoing support and honest feedback!
