I've been out of PC gaming properly for some 6 years. What great games have I missed out on over the years?

I'm open minded on platforms and I would like to play a game with an end goal (to completion in mind). Due to various commitments, I cannot afford to touch online games. So it must be single player with an end goal (to completion in mind) unless it has an end goal like Borderlands 2.

A few that I managed to catch up on over the years are:

Dishonoured
Shadow of Mordor (LOVED this)
Batman Arkham + City
Crysis Series
Portal 2
Borderlands 2 (This was fun being online as there was a collective end goal)
Company of Heroes
Metro 2033 (wasn't a big fan, had a fair bit of motion sickness)
Bioshock Infinite
Far Cry 3

It must be relatively easy to get back into after weeks (months off) so that rules out a lot of RPG games and games like Civilization (that rack up too much time and no real end goal).

My current rig is an i5 (clocked to 4ghz), 16GB RAM, Samsung SSD and 6850 Clocked. I'm not particularly bothered about high settings.

Thanks :D

Witcher 3 :p

Some others, Skyrim, Assassins creed 2, brotherhood and revelations arc is quiet fun, as is Black flag. Dues Ex Human Revolution, Pillers of eternity.

Some are open, but do have an end goal in mind.

Shadow Warrior (2013)
The Talos Principle
Fallout 3,4 & New Vegas
Wolfenstein The New Order & The Old Blood
Singularity
Mad Max
Just Cause 2 & 3
Farcry 4
Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons
Ori and the Blind Forest
GTA V

I guess The Witcher 3 as well as its widely loved but I found the huge amount of cutscenes, endless chit chat and rinse repeat combat mind numbingly repetitive and boring. Each to their own though.

Excellent list here to start with! I'm definitely picking up the tomb raiders to start with as they slipped my radar.

Have there been any great FPS's since HL2?

The Witcher 3, for sure. I don't know how anyone can complain about it, it's a fantastic game that's been extremely well done. I don't get the comment on variety of enemies. The world is full of monsters that are different to one another, and every type has a potion to counteract their affects or to weaken them when things get tough. I don't know many games that work like that.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The story is amazing and it's just a great game from the start. You can play it run-and-gun or stealthily with various ways of completing missions.

Skyrim. Simply one of the best RPGs ever made, and certainly not an issue to pick up and play for 30 minutes or 3 hours, and coming back to it after a few weeks isn't a problem either.

I see Deus EX being freakishly prophetic. The team writing it have put a LOT of effort and thought into making the future, 10 years hence, relatively believable (see the eyeborg documentary for... "proof" - shows a lot of stuff Jensen has/can do exist already in their very early stages).

Skyrim, Divinity: Original Sin, X-Com, X-Com 2 (and the X-Com 1 "long war" mod if you enjoy beating relatively higher difficulty levels). I'm sure I'll think of more :)

I don't think Human Revolution is a reboot/remake? Pretty sure it exists in the same timeline as Deus Ex just elsewhere.

Xcom 2

yeah, I meant remake in the broadest sense possible. It has borrowed a lot of elements from the original, but the storyline/characters/settings are all brand new.
