What Internet speed are you using?

Currently using 10mb cable.. but I'm not sure if this is an overkill?

I do use it for online gaming.

For online gaming, ping or latency is more important than bandwidth. So long as you have say 512k down/256k up, that's all you need for online games. Bandwidth and ping are not interrelated.

(FWIW I'm on ADSL Max which is giving me 2Mb down / ~400k up, which is the best I can get unfortunately. Could be worse though.)

I don't know what i'm on anymore at home :| It started as 512K on Telewest..but they upgraded me for free...I can downloaded at about 240kb/s.

Is there anyway for me to find out for definate what i'm on?

Is that 240K/sec on cable? You are probably on 2Mb then.

8Meg adsl but only get about 6 due to poor line quality, i would rather have 6 down and 2 up though.

Can you check your account details online or check your router/modem stats? To me it looks like you are on 2mb.

ADSL Max @ 2Mbps because of the telephone extension cord in use due to work being done in my room

Bulldog 8meg max, sync between 3 and 5 megs usually.

How are you telling that?

My cable broadband is apparantly guarunteed to run at 10mb but if i only need half that.. mights as well go the Pipex route for half the cost.

Before considering ADSL, make sure your phone line is near enough to the exchange to get good speeds. (BTW, Pipex is not an ISP that I would recommend - Freedom2Surf went down the toilet after they took over)

Have you considered downgrading to 4MB (25) or 2MB (17.99) ? Least that way you still have unlimited usage and no port throttling/cap ?
