What is birmingham like to live in?

Like others have said it depends on where you are in Birmingham. I don't think it is as bas as some people make it but equally I don't think it is amazing either. I've lived in Birmingham my whole life but work used to have me travel a lot and I came to the conclusion it is just like any other city.

I cannot understand a word Brummies say. It felt so embarassing back in 99 looking for directions to a motocross track.

I am sure Solihull is frequently ranked as one of the best areas to live in the UK. When I was at university some close friends lived in Selly Oak and I also found that a decent area with good nightlife (maybe a bit student focused if you are over 25). Edgbaston is also very nice. Perhaps go on a visit and make your own mind up as I am not sure you're getting a reliable/varied cross-section of opinion from GD.

I dislike Birminghamstan as it's got a disproportionately high number of areas I wouldn't show my white face and a night out there is full of lairy chavs. I live south of brum and will only ever go as far north as Solihull, unless there's a work night out in the city centre (it can be a cracking night out).

That said the centre is quite smart now and has a lot of cultural assets like theatres and music halls.

Edgbaston seems to be full of consultants so maybe op would fit in well there with the medical set.

I'd live in Birmingham, I'd live in the city centre too.

Go there quite oftenish I suppose - lots of great pubs, venues and restaurants :)

Horrible place, visited there for 7 years visiting my gf most weekends. Parts of the centre is like walking around in a run down Islamabad. The bullring is the only nice bit but that's filled with chavs and their loud mouth teenage girlfriends.

My gf was glad to escape down to London in the end and moved in with me!

As said, Harborne is decent and very near the QE. The high street has quite a lot on it and there's even a waitrose, so it can't be that run down ;)

Birmingham is ok, people are friendly and fairly relaxed.

Also do not have chips on the shoulders like Londoners and Mancs.

Lots to do as well.

to be fair it is worth considering that there are some areas of Birmingham that you'll probably not want to live in unless you subscribe to a particular belief system

Yeah, that's nonsense. I've worked at Birmingham City Hospital for the past 8 years and have lived in and around some of the supposed 'roughest areas' the West Midlands has to offer. Never really faced an issue I hadn't already seen growing up in the more aspiring middle class areas of the City.

It's all subjective of course. There definitely are lots of Asian communities in and around Birmingham and they can of course be just as rough as any white dominant area of the City. Just got to know when to keep your head down.

Lol. You really are quite the little boy aren't you?

Deuse is a special one alright, take what he says with a pinch of salt, he hides behind his lounge curtains tutting at all the foreigners running past stealing his jerbs and wimminz.
