I know that hedgehogs can make weird noises and can be heard snuffling about from quite a distance. It's that or an aadvark.

I live a few miles outside Montrose. Nearest neighbour is a mile away. Didnt think of a big cat
I just went out again and can hear it as someone standing behind me but cant get it on tape...

never heard anything like this before.. the sound doesnt change and if you approach the sound, it seems to come from a diff direction. I also dont hear anything moving

I've never bought in to the big cat theory myself, just thought I'd throw it in there. I've lived in Angus all my life and at primary school in particular I heard of several stories about them.

Go get the evidence!!!

I'd go with this ... at my parents old house we used to get quite a few on the back lawn and if you had a couple of randy males arguing over a female one then they would make "heavy breathing" type noises.

Montrose is at least 50 miles away from the natural habitat of haggises. So I very much doubt they're the cause.
