There's one that's fast and sounds like an animal sniffing around, or maybe just you fiddling with whatever you're recording with, and then some heavier breathing that starts about half way through.

Its the heavier breathing you need to listen for. The sniffing/clicking noise was the mic moving

Cant believe it, I had no fear and on a mission to find out, and NADA not a squeek, howl, or breath

Gutted:(

I went into the woods at a different point which may have scared it off.

Hopefully it will be back soon, or maybe hope it isnt

For any doubters, that recording is no fake.

I will keep you updated as soon as I hear or see anything.

Update landed

I saw a few scratch marks on the wood "floor" but they were probably by a rabbit. I did find two trees which made me think "whats been here?"
One was an overgrown shrub of sorts, with biggish holes under the main trunk. Nothing seemed to be there tho, even though it seemed to be a recent occurence (earth lobbed about the place).

The other was straight out of a film (I will post a pic tomorrow of it. It was a large beech tree with a () shaped hollow at the base of the trunk. Inside the tree is hollow!!
I couldnt see any droppings or any scratch marks. Inside is large enough for a largish animal to find shelter

No breathing outside tonight.

Update

I had the gamekeeper round on Sunday. We went into the woods in the afternoon and saw nothing. He checked for signs of anything unusual, and couldnt find anything.
Later when it was dark we went out....

Yup its back!! He listened and didnt recognise it at all:eek:

We had a look around and could hear it easily, but could not spot the darn thing:mad:.

He gave me a good idea on how to try and find what it is. Using clay or sand on a tray with food in the middle will leave footprints (he uses this to track mink).

Anyway I will try this and hopefully get a result at long last.

Have to wait till Friday :( (have a 1/2 day off)

As I need to get some sand for the foot/paw trap

I also got a reply from country file, who told me "they didnt have the expertise" and to contact the rspca. Fat use they are as Badger man hasnt shown :mad:

I heard it again last night but it was windy in the woods and there was no way I was going in there, as I wouldnt hear it coming for me!!

Anyway as soon as I have any updates I will post ASAP

Hangover has gone :) (work xmas doo on friday)

But a bit of good news:D.. I had the guy from Scottish Badgers round last Friday afternoon, and we both went into the woods to look for clues. No badger sets in sight.
He said would I mind if he came back when it was dark as he had to pick up his wife and would be passing back in my direction.
Later I saw a car come into our drive. I went out and met the badger man and his wife. I asked him if he had heard anything, and he said they both heard the breathing as soon as he opened his car door!!

His wife asked if I kept the curtains open at night, I said we usually dont as there is nothing out there apart from woods. She said that she would keep them closed:eek:

They both came in and I played him the sound again on my hifi and he said it is defo the same sound he heard outside, but hasnt got a clue what it is..
I gave him the link to the sound and he said he will let a friend of his hear it (some guy who looks after sick wild animals), and let us know what he thinks.

he is also going to come back at night with some others to investigate further.

Kinda out of my hands now, but in a way I am glad, as it is spooking me out..

Just been out tonight and cant hear a thing (no wind) but my cats are acting strange again

I will update again when I have any info from badger man or see/hear the varmint
 
Forgot to add

In my local paper "the courier" in either Fridays or Saturdays edition (page 5)
a large cat like animal (7 foot long including tail) was spotted running across the road near Montrose
 
Sorry for no post recently

On Saturday night a group of us got together and went in

We had with us a dog, night vision, and a landrover with search light...

We got the landrover to go to the opposite side of the woods to search for anything we may chase out. The dog was on a lead with the guy with night vision in front.

Well we went from end to end and found nothing, and there was no noise that night either.

I havent heard the breathing since. However my nearest neighbour whos dog we took in on Sat said that his dog has been spooked recently and constantly barking in the middle of the night. He also claimed to have seen something running through the woods but didnt recognise it.

So if anything does turn up I will let you know.

Oh nearly forgot to mention about my sand trap. I got prints on it and the food was gone... but they were my my blimin own cat prints!!
 
One rat down (found in attic)

I know their is another rat tho waiting to be caught (new rat hole appeared last night)

No more breathing sounds in the woods tho. Another friend listened to the sound and is certain it was a young owl. Never know for sure now I guess.
