What is it that makes people hate Apple so much?

I know your point is slightly different, and I agree that the end-to-end control is a good experience for people, but I actually think the whole "just works" thing is over-stated. And by a large margin.

The amount of problems with Apple gear I've had - persistent wireless connections issues, breaking MacBook cases, OS installers throwing up black screens, batteries refusing to wake up from a complete discharge, back lights failing, antenna issues, home buttons sticking etc. etc. They cause me just as many problems (if not more, but that might be due to me having a higher proportion of Apple gear) than any other device from any other manufacturer.

On that note... Two things I dislike about my MBA...

The Wifi, drops all the time, far more than my phone and my old laptop. There was supposed to be an update to fix it, update came, made little different IMO...

Sleep. Something that is made a big deal of by a lot of people, to me it's worse than windows a lot of the time. Biggest issue? The frustrating tapping and key mashing to try and wake it up if it's been asleep for a while, or when it's gone in to sleep/hibernation due to a low battery, plug it in, takes about a minute to wake back up, with the frustrated key mashing, trying to work out whether it's turning on or now... On my old laptop (other than the standard opening the screen again), just press the power button and on instantly all the time or press the power button just after you have plugged it in (after the battery died) and on instantly. If not at least it has a light to tell you it is working...

So yeah... Just works... Hmmm, questionable.

Vastly over priced for what they are.

Stoner81.

People seem to dip in with that comment, then pop back out.

It's been proven that in the long run, the smart money goes to Apple; better residuals mean lower long-term costs for most products.

Of course, try getting budget anything on the Apple-side...it doesn't happen. But hey, Apple don't want to be in that market, they want people to pay more for a higher end product (ie. netbook vs lower end laptop). It does make sense.

I'm starting to wonder if people use that comment because their own Android/WP7/laptop/netbook/whatever isn't worth what Apple ask and rather than accept it's because it's not worth it they convince themselves that it's Apple in the wrong?

Just food for thought there.

[Edit] Actually, considering the price of the iPod Touch, maybe Stoner does have a point. After all, functionality wise it's basically an iPhone minus calls/SMS?

when the new macbooks comes out if someone can find a similar spec laptop for much cheaper i will be absolutley amazed. and then their will still be the OS issue

macbooks arent well priced at the moment but only because they are at the very end of their abnormally long shelf life

theres nothing out there like the imac for the money and theres nothing out their that compares to the iphone imo. windows phone might do soon though

I don't think Apple is excused from the 2nd law of thermodynamics ;)

It's daft to assume that Apple products never break. My Superdrive has failed 3 times and is now out of warranty. Design flaw putting it at the front right of the case (where I tend to pick it up). Probably doesn't help that is has been dropped (and thrown)... The great thing about Apple products is the amount of support that Apple give, going in to Apple stores for help or using their accredited repair shops is an amazing service and one you just don't have with any other manufacturer (as far as I am aware).

I think people arguing this tend to forget that not everyone who has a computer a) Wants or needs the fastest thing b) Understands how they work. The support and training from Apple for these reasons alone warrants the price tag to some people.
