What is it these days with ugly cases?

is it me or has case design fallen over the last few years?

I remember when coolermasters looked fantastic, minimilistic, no fuss and smooth lines. They looked great, as did a lot of other cases around the same time. Apples design has always been flawless.

Yet everyday I see new cases hitting the market which just look plain awful. The new ones from Antec and NXT spring to mind. What's with the extra plastic stuck on to look like an out of date transformer?

Bring back the sleek sexy looking designs! or maybe its me just being out of fashion

at least Lian Li haven't changed........yet

i find the budget cases are becoming to look better, and the high end cases are becoming terribly expensive and ugly ( Thermaltake Level 10 Case and Lian Li PC-888 spring to mind )

Thing is apple probably have what, half a dozen different cases, for PCs theres a hundred times that many, much more choice and option so you get designs catering to all sorts of people, I agree the new Antecs look hideous but Im sure someone must like them.
as you say Lian Lis look good, as do Silverstone, Corsair, Fractal Design, some of the Coolermasters still do as do some of the Antecs, notably the P series - as I say much more choice thats all

MUAH HA HA HA!!!!

There aren't many modern cases I like really, I love my Antec 300, keeps things simple but still looks good!

I really hate those HAF 932s, everyone seems to love them though...

Its called desperation, when a case company cannot think of new innovative ways to design cases they fall back on the impractical artistic projects.

The Thermaltake level10 is the best case design I have seen since the TJ07.

Modular design is the way of the future!

The Lian Li PC-B10 is the ultimate sublime example of what I want from a PC case. That's why I bought one.

I do shed a tear when I see what hideousness Coolermaster produces these days!!! I was always a fan back in the day. It's those pesky, spotty, teenage, youtube account registered, spoilt brat ******* that are to blame.

I like a very neutral looking case and i too prefer the simple, sleek lines of cases with a door (Fractal Design Define R2 seem very good value) - but for practical reasons it's not an option for me (plus there's always the risk that one of my kids will rip the door off or mistake it for a dolls house...).

As a compromise, I've just purchased the Lian Li PC-7FN Case to replace my aging Coolermaster Praetorian as i needed better/quieter cooling options and easy access to my HDDs:

First impressions are good - now that i've disabled the LED on the fan - it's quite a subtle design but not the sturdiest of cases but it pretty much ticks all the boxes for my needs.

I regret, a little, not buying the Silverstone Fortress but i really didn't want a side window - and i really didn't want to spend another £20 (ontop of the extra £40) to buy one without.

If i get the time i may write a mini review - overall it seems good value, but it does have a few minor flaws...

what i cant understand is the TJ07 was redoubtably the most used case for modders/watercooling/in fact everyone pretty much loved it and still there isnt a case that caters for what the tjo7 did?

Corsair have come close, but why didnt they make the bottom of the case large enough to flip the psu on its side so a quad rad would fit?

Lian-li had there 2000 series which they proptly discontinued?

The bling bling days are over my Thermaltake xaser is in the garage with its flashing lights and 6 fan knobs and fruit machine effect chasers.

carry on with the deseigns like the ATCS 840 and Obsidian but make them more practical for rads and more fans and cable management.

Rant over :D
