What is it with delivery drivers not even attempting to knock on the door?!

Ok it’s very irrational but this is happening more and more and it’s driving me crazy.

“Your parcel has been delivered” notification appears, yet no attempt to knock the door or press the doorbell.

I thought well I could have missed it, but recently on any deliveries with live tracking I’ve been at the window and seen them not even attempt to knock.

Why are they doing this? Purely to save time? And maybe I’m paranoid but taking a picture of a parcel on the floor isn’t proof of delivery.

What’s to stop a driver take a picture of the parcel and then pick it up?

I thought it had to be a picture of say the parcel in the open doorway as evidence.

Anyone else experience the no knocking phenomenon? Maybe you’re a driver that does it, if so why?

Yeah it happens here sometimes too, never used to.

I think it's the companies pushing the employees to be fast, and there's only so many ways to be fast. If they get negative consequences for not being fast then of course they're gonna do this.

From what I gather it's less that they are pushed to be fast, but that they are paid for the work as a single unit, based on estimated time and expenses. Of course, if you then rush like hell and deliver a borderline substandard service, you can make this work for you.

Yeh i hate this

I have had a couple of instances where i have waited in, and heard nothing, so i go down near end of the day look outside and its been left "not in a safe place" but in plain view of every passing person without a knock on the door

I mean come on leave it in a safe place if you dont knock on the door.

Luckily, it doesnt happen a lot

reason why it should be paid by the hour not by number of packages.

What other business has such a thing? Shelf stacker, MOT worker, bicycle tech, fast food operator - nope.

Kinda similar but I hate the ones that knock and run. My parents had one the other day from royal mail. Knock at door, and given they live in a bungalow it doesn't take long to reach the door. He was down the path and just about to leave (parcel in hand). My mam just shouted "Oi" and made him come back. How do people fair that live in a house and say, are upstairs when someone knocks. Crazy.

Happens with amazon all the time. Open the door to a parcel just thrown near the door or come home to parcels just left on the doorstep despite adding instructions to ask them not to do it as we live on a corner.

I also had a situation where the driver knocked on my door, I open it and no one is there, then the drive knocks the door and tells me I should have waited for him to go back and get the parcels. WTF.

This is a pet peeve of mine...

If I've ordered something, I want it actually delivered, not left somewhere near my house. I wouldn't be as bothered if the places you buy it from took resposbility about it & actually did something when it ends up getting stolen. The couple of times I've not had something arrive (I presume is actually due to being delivered to the wrong house, rather than stolen, as the delivery person never showed on my CCTV), it's been far too much of a fight to get a refund or the item re-sent.

Just happed to me, I have no idea where it was left another claim I need to make. The picture is not of my door. I started to buy less online and if I do I try and get it delivered to the store now.
Royal mail they can't even ring the bell, I've made many complaints probably get blacklist now
They whole day spent at home waiting for nothing,

It drives me mad and it is definitely more of a thing. It seems to be the norm that I get a notification that it has been left at the collection office despite being in for the delivery

it's the gentle pats on the door rather than pressing the 'ing doorbell that narks me. it's almost like they don't want people to answer.

I try and opt for the item to be delivered to my local PO. Or, if Amazon, to a locker if of the correct size. Not always possible though...

I suspect they're trying to manipulate people into using the lockers. Then after enough have done they'll remove the to the door service. Then they'll replace all the drivers with robots.

I generally get good delivery service, the Amazon driver even puts the parcel in a plastic bag if it's raining and goes out of their way to put it round the back of the house. Sometimes!

The one delivery issue I have is when they know somebody is in but knock (tap) on the door rather than press the Ring doorbell. The Ring doorbell has pretty crap knock detection so it's usually Alexa that's notified us there's motion detected. In instances such as this I'll go meet them at the door to make their delivery as swift as possible which I think they appreciate.

Some still knock (we have a doorbell but assume thst's too complicated) but the majority are just chucking the parcel at the door, taking a random picture and running now.
