OK I can be Amazon specific as I did for lols when I took redundancy/ early retirement, more something to do than anything else and get my steps in - not for long though. This was cicra 2021 so I'm sure rates are up but you will get the jist.
Drivers are mainly self employed through a service delivery partner , the drivers normally rent vans from these SDP'S , Drivers are paid for a 9 hour day and when I was doing it was paid I belive £135 a day plus a bonus , our DSP never achieved that in the 2 months i was there of three months prior. Ball park figure of you worked 5 days £135 X5 is £675 , less van rental of £200 leaves a driver £475 for a 45 hour week . He then has to pay tax and NI on that , no holiday pay or sick pay as your self employed. Basicly peanuts.
Now my delivery round was in the Romford area and when I logged in to my app it was around 180 different stops on that round , notice I said stops and not addresses ? At each stop the stop if I remember correctly covers an area so that stop invariably it could cover three or four adresses , heaven help you if you got a tower block .At the end of my two weeks when I sussed it out I was delivering to well- over 250 different addresses in a day !
What am I getting at here you might ask , well if you had to wait 2 minutes at every address for people to pause the tv , finish a phone call , put the dog in the garden , put some clothes on - you can see where I'm coming from ?
